That is not at all what I meant, you know that and it fucking bums me out that you of all people would put words in my mouth after I explained myself and admitted I was wrong.
You could call it hip hop, elements bleed over all the time. It's not insane to label it, or at the very least parts of it, as such.
It's cool. I'm coming out of a week-long depressive episode so that's probably why it rubbed me the wrong way so much. Bad timing.
There are elements of hip hop on Blonde, sure. Not nearly enough to categorise it as a hip hop album though.
I personally wouldn't call it hip hop but I'm not out here calling people racist for it either. The genres blend into each other all the time, there's a lot of "hip hop" on this. Not unfathomable or problematic to label it as such. Who cares? I was more just baffled by how angry people were getting
Lol wow this thread. There are elements of hip hop on blonde. There are. I think actually think it's ridiculous to say otherwise. Frank Ocean would probably say the same. He's a talented guy who probably pulls from a million of genres for inspiration. Is it a 100% all in hip hop record? Absolutely not. But it pulls from the genre. Lighten up.
It's inaccurate to label this as a hip hop album when it primarily features characteristics intrinsically linked to R&B, e.g. Frank's vocal style. Anyone who listens to "Self Control", "Ivy" or basically any song on Blonde and labels it as hip hop, is misguided in doing so. This whole conversation started because someone said Blonde is one of their favourite hip hop albums of 2016, but it's not a hip hop album so that doesn't make any sense. It's like me saying TLOP is one of my favourite R&B albums because it has features from Rihanna, The-Dream, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean. That's not the main genre the album operates within so it's inaccurate to label it as if it is. Ultimately though, who cares?
Lots of new stuff out today. Trying to wait until after work so I can bang Migos in the whip rather than through one ear of my headphones.
