I wouldn't go that far. As many problems I have with the video (I have many), it's very clearly engaging in a thematic and artistic aesthetic that's always been a part of his vision, blending high and low art with his song/Vincent Desiderio, but where I think he's having issues is he has a me against the world/no one understands my work/I'm so provocative mindset that has always been endearing and engaging, but now he's lost a sort of focus/he's indulging some harmful/petty sides of himself without as much really self-critical engagement that keeps himself in check. So he puts this very intentionally provocative video out there and immediately tweets "someone sue me" to stoke the idea, rather than let the idea stand on its own. It's possibly/probably intentional, but his blurring of the line between art and artist, his art and his persona/celebrity is becoming a lot to reconcile or accept. It's testing and frustrating and again, without holding himself up to the deeper level of criticism as he has the potential to, it comes off really poorly.
I feel like every Kanye album was (to me) the greatest at their time of release. Except Graduation. I don't care for that album save for 3-4 songs.
I like fantasy more than pablo but basically agree. Yeezus became my favorite just over like the last month which is strange but it's probably my most played album this summer.
808s, Yeezus, and Pablo are my top 3 Kanye that video is bad but w/e I'm to the point now where I just acknowledge that Kanye is problematic sometimes but still love the music.
I've basically come around to Pablo being my favorite Kanye album from a very personal standpoint just because of how caught up my roommate and I were in the rollout and getting to see the premiere at MSG. We played it nonstop last semester and all summer so far. It's music that makes me feel good and smile and want to dance and idk the last time I heard something that made me feel that way haha
ah just like old times me in the the kanye thread peddling jerome lol and samo sound boy to anyone who will listen
I actually remember checking them out and loving it back when you rec'd them in the old Kanye thread! Haha, now that I'm on Apple Music I'll have to download the album. Thanks for the reminder. I miss the old Kanye (thread) said no one, ever
the fact that there's no consensus on a GOAT album is probably a good thing in terms of how good Kanye is at making music
I've gotten to the point where my "favorite" Kanye album is whichever one I hadn't listened to in the longest time
Are we about to finally rank Ye albums for the first time on chorus? It took longer than I expected tbh
