I’ve probably shared this anecdote a couple times before here, but I once saw Gravity by myself in an empty theater on my birthday. Which, was honestly a pretty fun experience.
I listened to an interview with an Italian astronaut recently and she told a story about how the crowd in movie theatre she went to got mad at her for laughing all the time during Gravity. That’s my only exposure to the movie lol
I didn’t like Gravity very much. I also didn’t like Looper that much and turned off Brick. Roma was good!
Yeah he really bounced back from Gravity in a big way with Roma. Gravity was really just an effects spectacle with bad acting and a paper thin screenplay. Despite its accolades, it’s a low point in Cuaron’s career for sure.
I loved Gravity but its definitely weaker than his best work. A Little Princess was surprisingly good too.
Gravity is not a complex character study. It’s thin but it doesn’t need more depth in dialogue or character, all of its depth is in the cinema itself. It’s probably in the bottom half of his filmography, but that’s a testament to how good he is, not that Gravity is bad. Roma and Y Tu Mama Tambien are probably the top two.
I like HP, but don’t love it. And I’d like Star Wars more if it wasn’t for the toxic fan base. Worst fandom by far.
