Consensus was (or at least some people expressed) that a new thread shouldn’t be made, so it’s deleted, and I’m hopeful that others won’t make one, at least until Kanye apologizes for everything he has done and said.
I mean, people are just going to post news here and in the KSG thread, so I'm not sure what kind of solve deleting the thread provides. I've always believed its better to keep tabs on and discuss problematic art (especially major releases that will be difficult to avoid anyways) rather than to pretend they don't exist, but if others disagree, that's fine too. I guess I just don't think creating a thread for critical discussion is anywhere near the same as showing support for the artist
That’s what I was thinking but a few people expressed discomfort with the thread having been made so I felt weird about keeping it up.
I don’t really see how much critical discussion can come out about a guy who said slavery was a choice. I mean, you either think he’s a despicable pos (aka, you’re right) or you don’t (aka, you’re wrong). Not really something reasonable minds can disagree on.
I don't see anyone in here disagreeing, I just don't understand why him being a piece of shit should put an end to the conversations people have been having on this site about problematic artists for a long time. This forum has historically provided a place for "fans" of problematic artists to talk about the way they were affected by certain music, how that's changed, and how they've worked through those feelings, all under a more critical and educational lens that other sites lack (thanks to many of our wonderful, bright, and empathetic users). The last paragraph of this review is one of the best examples that comes to mind in terms of why his fall from grace feels particularly disappointing, and to me, it goes to show that there are still critical conversations to be had. I've learned so much from discussions and posts here that echo similar sentiments, that I struggle to see what would be gained by not having a place for them. To dismiss the value of analyzing our ongoing feelings and frustrations with an artist that has let us down feels disingenuous to me.
I never said the new thread should be deleted. I just made a comment about yet another Kanye thread being made as if we don't already have enough of those. Re-name one of these threads the Kanye Accountability thread or whatever. If that's the only kind of discussion that goes on here, and nobody is uncritically discussing his new music without putting it through that lens, then that shouldn't be an issue. Starting new album threads seems kind of pointless for someone that we collectively shouldn't be supporting anymore.
How do one/two person operations run record labels and ship things out in a timely manner, and Kanye needs three months to ship a cassingle?
they probably havn't even put the physical media into production. Its Kanye the final mix of the song may yet to be done.
Just read through that GQ article and as recently as January he said he was voting trump again (and in very stupid misinformed rich-Kanye fashion). Curious if that’s changed at all with the protests and trump’s reaction, but I see literally no reason to give him the benefit of a doubt right now.
