This is super average. Some really cool ideas scattered around the album (mostly production choices) but used ineffectively. A lot of it just sounds like demos. Doesn’t help that Kanye is a shitty person and I just don’t really like hearing his voice these days. That said he has some nice singing moments on a couple of these things. But idk overall this just sound very thrown together.
I just finished my first listen and I am not feeling this at all. I'll give it a couple more spins, but this is the first Kanye record where I finished it and couldn't recall anything from it immediately after.
my first listen was basically: why does it sound all weird, why are the lyrics so bad, there is no cohesion on this at all and it felt like forever when it’s only a 27 minute album.
also for some reason after hearing all this talk about gospel it just made me want to listen to ma$e So yeah that’s what I did
Yeah it doesn't get much worse than this...the bizarre mixing, awful lyrics, surface level approach to spirituality, seemingly random sequencing...WTF happened? He's already tainted his legacy culturally of course, but this thing really harms it musically for the first time I think.
This makes me long for the days when Kanye would do features where the big payoff is him making a diarrhea pun.
I also still remember when a DJ from my area went viral with a long-winded theory that Kanye spazzing was all a well-orchestrated work.
When this whole MAGA thing started I honestly thought it was some type of big performance art piece. But honestly, he still has a large ego and when the most powerful man in the world starts showering you with praise and inviting you to the White House, of course you’re going to go all in on him. I bet Kanye can’t even discuss any of Trump’s policies, just like in the Zane interview yesterday when he couldn’t quote any scripture or really dive deep into any Christianity discussion.
I genuinely believe that Kanye does have bipolar disorder, though I don't know specifically which one.
