Zane: so 2024 is still a thing West: We working on it *pause* so people are obsessed with social media. okay.
It’s not all that baffling. He’s rich and disconnected and doesn’t give a shit how his support of Trump affects anyone
"liberals love art, and i am undoubtedly the single greatest artist of all time, so me putting on a red hat was like the ultimate practical joke on all the liberals"
From the beginning, his infatuation with Trump stems from the idea that Trump was a reality star. He was this celebrity that balled out and had all these appearances and was unapologetic in terms of who he was (at least in Kanye's eyes), and he managed to get elected president. Ye doesn't understand the strings attached to the immense wealth and the many powerful connections that Trump has. He views himself as similar to Trump, I'd assume. Or his wife as similar to Trump. You hear this dumb shit that he says about how rappers or reality stars won't be accepted by the higher ups and it's very clear why he likes Donald. It's the Jay Gatsby situation of wanting to be accepted by old money, except he doesn't realize that that's exactly what Trump is, lol. I'm sure he disagrees with some of Trump's viewpoints. It seems like he thinks that he can sit down and have a conversation with Trump (which has been shown to be true) and enact change (which he really can't). He's been brainwashed by the same dumb alt right rhetoric that has radicalized so many dumb (mostly) men on the internet. The idea that people of color need to stop being "victims" or whatever. It's old hat, bad faith arguments that ignore power dynamics and institutionalized oppression and blah blah blah you all get it. He's so obsessed with the idea of being able to have the ear of the president (which superficially he does but it doesn't mean anything), that he's willing to sell out his own beliefs.
idk I love Kanye's music but he IS hard to listen to in an interview context. Even before he went all MAGA on us I felt this way.
I'd really love to see the overlap between 20 something white "hip hop fans" who still ride for Kanye and the people who used "Fish stick" jokes non stop from 09 to when MBDTF dropped.
This is it. Also, I think Kanye is a contrarian and as such is attracted to other successful contrarians.
This is why I keep saying old Kanye went away long before this. Even old Kanye could be incoherent though lol
If I’m wrong about this, please correct me, but isn’t Kanye both mentally ill and refusing treatment?
I always like when he speaks. I don't always agree with what he says but I always find it interesting.
