I mean, I like them as standalones but I really don't think they work in context of the "album," they feel more throw-back whereas the first half of the album was what current Kanye was doing. That's kinda how I hear it at least, 30 Hours, Parties and Facts in a row just feels like (good) singles tacked on to the end of an album like bonus tracks
Yeah, Pablo is a special one for me. Definitely the first where you could feel things starting to fall apart, but that chaos was part of its charm (musically speaking).
Same. I really liked about half of Ye, which probably puts it above other post-MBDTF for me, though that doesn’t mean much.
I've mentioned it a bunch but I absolutely LOVE KSG, still listen to it all the time. Ye is fine, his weakest project easily imo but I love Ghost Town, I Thought About Killing You and No Mistakes, and Yikes is a fun song. I love pretty much every song on Pablo but it's not a cohesive album by any means
I know people love Yeezus but Yeezus was actually the beginning of the dark ages of Kanye's career, quality or no
I mean his mother's death and the breakup of his engagement is the start of a lot of "darkness" in his career, if you wanna go way way back
At least during the Yeezus era he was talking about how classism is bad, instead of being friends with fascist millionaires.
Wasn't he talking about how classism is bad and saying that racism isn't a thing anymore? Was that during Yeezus?
His mental decline or whatever you want to call it, probably goes back to his mom's death, or maybe even earlier. Musically however, Yeezus was not a decline.
Based on his Zane Lowe interview, I thought it was more of a classism is at the root of racism thing, especially considering how much Yeezus talks about race, but I could be misremembering
