Yeezus was the peak of my Kanye fandom and for a long time I would have called it my favorite. I haven’t listened to him much at all in the last couple years so it may have gone down a bit for me - part of the appeal was that it’s Kanye most effectively embracing/channeling his absurdity and energy, and that doesn’t hold up quite as well when you’re mostly convinced he’s a jackass.

I still think it's a very good album, but even when I was listening to it/loved it more than any of the others I would have admitted that MBDTF and both of the first two were objectively better. (And on this site it probably goes without saying, but I wouldn't blame anyone for saying 808s has stronger songwriting, either.)

 

I'd swap MBDTF and Yeezus with 808s and LR but otherwise I'm with this.

 

If "Black Skinhead" or "New Slaves" or "Blood On The Leaves" or "Bound 2" do nothing for you, I don't know what to tell you.

 

I like Bound 2, but to me he was already slipping as a rapper on Yeezus

Thanks to all who responded to my survey. I think the general abrasive nature of Yeezus is what keeps me from putting it on most of the time. Just not a mood I’m in that often. Doesn’t mean I don’t respect the thought put into it.

Hold My Liquor & Blood on the Leaves are the exceptions though.

It's hard for me to rank Yeezus over College Dropout or Late Registration by themselves, let alone rank it over both of them.

 

ATL must have the fastest building permitting process of any US city
