    Got a light?

Playboi Carti is on the album but showed up late for an event that already started too late so they cut the mic before they could do his song lol

all the kids were at the show too, there's a photo of North hanging out with Chris Brown, it's so depressing

  3. unreal...literally watching like 10 people on stage trying to take Kanye's verse (which is just him repeating that line for like a whole minute and a half) seriously lol

When Vince Staples posted on IG last night, my heart sank for a split second. Luckily it was just a dark pic of himself in the studio.

Though I've stopped being surprised by his antics.. they still leave me puzzled time and time again.

He's really committed to hate speech/imagery, and has chosen make light of it all in song (Vultures)? Other artists are along for the ride? He platforms abusers and by association many artists are too? People in the industry are ok with this? Am I being punk'd?

His fall from grace feels almost fictional. It's gone so far off the rails beyond anything I could have predicted when he tweeted "defcon 3". This all kicked off in 2022 but truly feels like a lifetime ago at this point.

The guy will double down on anything, even if its at his own expense.

Glad the talent that lifted up Kanye in his peak, like Push, Bon Iver and Kid Cudi washed their hands of him.

  11. As someone who did their college thesis on him, it's fascinating (and depressing). I have so little personally invested in him and his music at this point that I consider myself an omnipresent observer of sorts. I don't pay attention because I'm a fan, but I do keep my eye on everything because his rise and fall in pop culture feels historically significant.

Winters are definitely tough because 808s and MBDTF were my go-to winter albums. They got me through a lot of stuff. And “Christmas in Harlem” is a top-tier Christmas song. I’ll let some of that still play because to me, it’s basically a different person than this guy. But yeah, everything for the past five or so years has been from an outsider’s perspective rather than a fan.

Seeing video of when he put the hood on and everyone on the stage looks so uncomfortable.

I feel bad for his kids. They’re not old enough to fully comprehend what all is going on. Also it was like past 2AM and the kids were still out with him, so much for it being a school night.

  15. Yeah, those first four albums really do feel like a completely different person. It's scary.

  16. If it were anyone else, them being at their dad's album release party late on a weeknight would not be a real concern of mine lol.

Cudi and John Legend gave him so many chances to redeem himself and I'm glad they were both able to cut ties

Personally I always felt like the shift slowly set in somewhere around or after Graduation, Old Kanye has like 2,5 albums

  21. He's obviously beyond repair at this point, but it does beg the question, do you think he ever walks back this near-decade of right-wing ghoulishness and Nazi apologism, or do we think this is it?

One thing I've never understood is, of the reports of him reading Mein Kampf really go back to like 2003, why does his music reflect relatively progressive views for like at least five full years after that?

I can't wait to read (or write) a book on all of this.

  22. 808s and MBDTF feel transitionary to me, but MBDTF may have been the catalyst that made him feel he would truly always be redeemable (and a genius)

Yeezus had its share of out of pocket lines and I don’t think many would argue against his arrogance at the time, but the topics he spoke on on a few tracks/his anti-corporation stance while also having the self awareness to reflect on how he was a hypocrite, I think that was his most interesting era. The Zane Lowe interview had it’s memes and all that but beyond that, seeing how he started the interview humble and polite and then got so intense and passionate about his art, while also rebelling against what the industry and corporations wanted him to do was something that simply wasn’t matched and hasn’t been matched since and I think that’s probably what Matty from The 1975 was thinking when he said what he did (unnecessarily and poorly worded) recently. I occasionally listen to stuff from that era but yeah it all got worse from there, I personally do occasionally revisit old stuff but there’s no defending any of this recent behavior, as many pointed out it’s insanely hypocritical for him to have called Kim out for bad parenting and then like a year later have her on stage around people smoking weed with Chris Brown rapping about extreme sexual content

MBDTF is when the switch flipped a little, then yeezus was a wild time, Pablo is when he was like “I can say and do anything and nothing happens”
