Jesus lol Feb 10 - March 31 is going to be one of the best music release windows of my life. Paramore, Pierce the Veil, Kali Uchis, Caroline Polachek, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, boygenius, and Fall Out Boy in a 7 week period, plus I see Taylor Swift & Paramore in there too
This album is pretty solid front to back. A few songs stood out on first listen, but nothing was bad, all is very nice!
This is seriously fantastic but I do hope on a later project she goes back to the wild genre experimentation from Isolation. I love this and Sin Miedo but they have felt very focused on a particular sound. I especially love when she has a live band, she plays off them so well.
Isolation is a seriously special album. I do miss some of the stuff she was doing on there, even though I've loved almost everything since
I also love Isolation but this is seriously a fantastic album in its own right. Feel like this deserves more hype. All Mine, Como Te Quiero Yo, Moral Conscience, and Happy Now are standouts on first listen.
For me this is the first time a Kali album has kind of blended together for me, she usually has a lot more variety on her albums. Not saying it's bad but it's going to take more listens to start really distinguishing the songs for me I think. Nothing really immediately sticks out to me like Just a Stranger, Telapatia, etc Isolation is probably one of my favorite R&B albums of all time at this point though so I'm not sure she'll ever top that for me
I don't disagree that it's all a pretty similar style, but every listen makes me love it even more and the songs are separating from themselves now. Worth the Wait, All Mine, Endlessly, and Moral Conscience are probably my standouts but I honestly could keep listing more Edit: I take it back, I don't have favorites cus I'd have to add basically all of the last 5 songs too. I Wish You Roses is probably my least favorite actually
She just got announced for a latin music fest in Chicago in August - wonder if the spanish album she's been teasing will be out by then. Either way she's going to force me to go cus I assume the setlist will be pretty different than the current tour.
Speaking of which, I'm seeing the tour on Tuesday so I haven't actually experienced it yet but... what the fuck is that setlist? Why is she playing so many covers and so few of her own songs? Seriously, two songs from Isolation but seven covers?
That't not entirely fair or true, 4 of the "covers" aren't covers, they are her verse from someone else's song, which is an extremely common practice for artists to do when they have multiple popular collaborations
