I love the short rollout so the tendency to overplay (/hear my wife overplay) any pre-release date songs will be greatly reduced.
I also prefer the promo photo with the tears to the album cover. So that’s a bummer. The heart cover reminds me of Cat Power’s “The Greatest”
my guess is that this is the buzz single, hype single, internet single, or whatever the fuck you want to call it these days. I would expect we get an actual lead single, radio single, with music video before the album is out. but just my guess
I am very excited about this album AND the song. But every time I listen to it, I feel like it'd be a good intro for Scary Kids Scaring Kids' "Star Crossed."
Love the song, yeah it feels like an intro but I think that's fine for a short rollout like this. I'm really hyped immediately. Anyone find a full quality version of the attached? Would much prefer that as the cover tbh
Also MY GOD the vibes from this film trailer!!!! I got Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet meets Clueless, Jawbreaker AND But I'm a Cheerleader vibes from it and I am so so so excited.
Not interested in this song, which makes me disappointed in myself because I am predisposed to liking everything she’s done for the past 6 years. Feel like I can’t appreciate it without the context of the album. Also don’t like the album cover, feels cheesy. All that negativity out of the way, still so so stoked for this to come out ASAP. Lfg
I guess when country radio basically shuts you out because of your gender even when you're winning Album of the Year, your incentive to care about a true "single" probably decreases.
Slow Burn is on my shortlist of absolutely perfect album openers and this song is.... definitely not that for me. I'm sure the album will be good tho
I get it. It's not a traditional single even in its composition. Most of it feels like it's building up to something which never happens, and there's a lot of unusual instrumentation from what we'd come to expect. While I understand the reaction, I still dig the song for what it is. I'm still hyped for the album.
I know it's not a traditional single, but it's definitely pretty clear what role it's supposed to play. It's basically the prologue or the overture, and a very effective tease for what she's going for.
