Ok, we had all the same fears, haha. "High Horse" (while a song I quite like!) is the one moment on Golden Hour that doesn't sound completely effortless to me. That album struck a really nice balance, I thought, between her country songwriting roots and a more modern pop-ish sound. Definitely curious to see how I feel about this one, though I like the way she writes songs so much that I'm not too worried. And I probably won't watch the film anyway. Can't really think of an example where something like that added to an album for me.
saw the movie, which felt like very much an afterthought to the album, something fun for her to do like an extended music video w fun costumes and set designs rather than something with an actual artistic statement behind it. Hoping I like the album more because a lot of it was chopped up to fit in the movie.
This album is pretty great, but it's definitively NOT the pop crossover album a lot of us were expecting. Obviously that's OK, I'm just surprised this is the major label debut. Cheers to Kacey, heavy album here. early standouts are definitely the more upbeat ones (simple times, what doesn't kill me, justified, there is a light) but the rest are gonna grow on my quickly
Ya the movie was cool but didn't really feel integral to the album. Still glad I saw it and will definitely watch again.
where are yall hearing Simple Times? i found a snippet but not the whole thing. honestly, it sounds like the best track we've heard so far. Star-Crossed and Justified didnt do much for me
Well, it's the first time I haven't been head-over-heels in love with a new Kacey album on first listen... A lot of really great things going on here, but the hooks don't seem as strong to me as her past albums (kind of odd, given that this is supposed to be the big "pop" play?) and some of the songs just feel a little slight on first blush.
Golden Hour was also probably one of my 5-10 favorite “first listen” experiences literally ever, so I am coming in with very high expectations.
LA people: shes doing a pop up shop at the hollywood methodist church on saturday from 11-4 with exclusive merch. I can walk to it hehe
I've been asking for weeks and no one can tell me what they are! I'm beginning to think they don't know.
the closing track was the biggest wtf for me, not sure she quite pulls it off. spanish hasn't quite been her forte since feliz navidad lol
