With this one, I actually like the ballads more than the upbeat tracks. Not the case with Megan Moroney or Ella Langley. That’s always been Kacey’s sweet spot, IMO.
I like it. Deeper Well didn't resonate as much with me, but this one is finding me at the exact right time. Kasey Musgraves, our strongly annunciating queen!! Favorites: Rhinestoned, I Believe in Ghosts, Middle of Nowhere, Hell on Me, Loneliest Girl
Hmm I'll let ya know after I've given it more than one straight listen. My fav new songs were "Back On The Wagon", "Loneliest Girl", "Horses and Divorces", "Hell On Me". Agreed that she's much better at ballads than those other folks and many of her best songs are in that vein. "Dry Spell" got me excited for her to thread the needle between pop and country in a more fun way that seemed to nod towards Pageant Material. That one is tied for my favorite Kacey project because it has the best mix of great upbeat country tunes and some of her best ballads.
Huh, Pageant Material is actually fourth on my Kacey rankings, and it's because I mostly don't think the upbeat songs are very good. Absolutely amazing ballads on that album, though. "Horses and Divorces" is easily my least favorite song here, but that's probably just because I've soured on Miranda Lambert as an artist in the past couple of years. In general, I think the guest features here leave something to be desired.
Golden Hour>Same Trailer>Deeper Well>Pageant Material>Star-Crossed Too early to rank this one. It'll either be right ahead of or right behind Pageant Material.
^ Same ranking for me I think Early favorites are Hell On Me, Back On The Wagon, Abilene, Coyote, Horses and Divorces, Uncertain TX
I really love that one, I’m speaking more of “Biscuits,” “Cup of Tea,” “This Town,” “Family is Family,” etc.
The back half is weaker for sure but I’d love this album to have one song that bumps the way songs like “Dime Store Cowgirl”, “High Times”, “Good Ol’ Boys Club”, “Pageant Material”, and “Biscuits” do. “Loneliest Girl” is closest.
i get people's disdain for star-crossed (i personally like it, but it's definitely near the bottom for me), but Deeper Well at the bottom is wild
I think Deeper Well has very nice soundscapes and "vibes" but I find the songwriting to just be slightly less bland than starcrossed and don't think there's many memorable melodies or hooks, it's very "nice"
Enjoyed this without really falling in love with it. Loneliest Girl, Rhinestoned, and Uncertain TX are my faves
Yeah, I don’t disagree on that front. The opening trio of Pageant Material is really masterful, and this album doesn’t start off on anywhere near as high a note.
Pageant Material Golden Hour Same Trailer Different Park Star-Crossed Deeper Well Haven't had time to listen to this one yet. Hopefully today.
I like this but there's probably less moments that really stand out and make me want to revisit it than on any of her other albums.
