I gotta say, I'm really enjoying my first listen. She just sounds and feels like she's back in her pocket and it's effortless and natural. Is it as good as those first three albums? Probably not, but that's OK, I feel like Kacey is back finally
is this the point where we are supposed to compare the album to Taylor Swift? Just want to make sure we are doing it right
I haven’t heard the album but I keep seeing things like “Kacey is back” which is confusing because Deeper Well was a great album
This is good, it's very much a traditional country record. There aren't many detours here musically so it can get a little same-y but the lyrics are good. I do miss some of the dream pop elements she had been bringing into her music, but I think I'm in the minority there.
one listen through... i enjoy it. Feels a bit like Deeper Well mixed with more traditional country. Back on the Wagon is a standout for me. I cant get enough of that pedal steel TBH Rhinestoned and Mexico Honey arent my favorite. Mexico Honey is actually not bad, but I have a hard time getting past the line "I mean, for real, what the hell"
Abilene sounds like Portugal. The Man singing that Taylor Swift song that HAIM are on - I mean this in the best possible way. This is good and its an easy breezy listen. I preferred Deeper Well though.
I would kind of think so, but it seems like a weird song to write about him like 5+ years after they divorced...
REALLY enjoying this one which makes me happy. Don't think I listened to the last 2 more than a couple times all the way through
I don’t think it’s about Ruston. I honestly feel like “Hell on me” is the divorce song we’ve all been waiting to hear from her. i wonder if some of these songs were written a long time ago and she either didnt record them right away or was waiting for musical inspiration after writing lyrics.
She doesn't have a lot of lyrics in her songs, so every line has to count. That's harder on songs when she writes with less specificity. I wish more of the songs were upbeat, because the first three songs set a great mood. Feels like every female country album this year is overloaded with midtempo balladry.
some very solid songs here mixed with some forgettable tracks too. will need more time with it. Hell On Me is fantastic
