That song brings the album down a few notches for me. As the opening track it really doesn't hook you in, and even though there are some great songs on there, it never feels cohesive
That song is sick and everyone was hyped when it dropped. But it was a weird first release choice and the rest of the songs didn’t live up to its grandeur.
It's still one of my two favorites on the album, justified being the other, but it really was NOT a sign of things to come haha. I got so hyped that she was about to do something special but the intro really had zero ties to the rest of the album
I tried giving Star-Crossed another chance recently and still couldn’t get through it. Just feels like someone doing a Kacey Musgraves impersonation. Hope she got what she was looking for out of making it but 100% not my jam
Yeah the intro to Star Crossed rules, I've said it before, but that melody that starts with "what have we done?" is an absolute earworm. Flute solo rules too.
I think that entire “once upon a time” or “let me tell you a story” device to open a record is incredibly lame.
My hot take is that her studio Christmas album is very good, but that Christmas special was very not. Part of it is because I tried to get my friends on board with the latter and they hated it.
I like watching but not listening to the Christmas special. If I’m playing her Christmas music it’s the studio album
The Christmas special is not great. Her original Christmas songs are GREAT but her versions of the standards are shaky at best
Love that damn Christmas album. Usually the first one I put on after the Phil Spector one every year.
