I think it sounds like an album. Also I fundamentally disagree that showing the breadth of what you can do is inherently a lesser album. Wake and Sign O the Times and the like are just as valid, and often have more engaging sequencing.
After the first three listens i miss the tangents she would take genre-wise. Maybe I'll hear it later on but that's really my big complaint so far.
I don't really hear the "tailor-made for Spotify playlisting" thing, personally. Just feels like a folk record to me.
Maybe I need more listens, but I didn't initially hear the bop like High Horse or Breadwinner. Also cohesive to me is almost more about production, like, do the songs SOUND like they should be on the same album. Also if the openers/closers do their jobs as bookends.
I need to listen when I’m not in the car. I think that’s the reason why I feel like it runs together so much
Great album. I’m really into the sorta Fleetwood Mac -ish sound on “cardinal” and “jade green” and could go for more tracks like that.
Ok I really really love this album. It gets better every listen. I also kind of miss the style of the lyrics from her earlier stuff, but I think she does a pretty good job with this more straightforward style too.
I dig this album a lot. I know it's sort of anticlimactic as a closer but "Nothing to be Scared Of" really speaks to me right now, that's the kind of songwriting I'm here for.
