Finally heard the whole album Can confirm anime eyes is great Was worried it'd be kinda cringey based off comments but I didn't think it was at all. I thought the polarizing part fit the song and was cute Whole album is great.
i think after a few listens this is how i feel; i really love a third of the album. i like another third of the album. and then the last third is just fine. none of this album is bad by any means, but there’s at least a third of the tracks that are very unmemorable to me.
this feels like an album generated for an editorial Mellow Vibes playlist than a cohesive album but it’s decent enough. not her worst. the run of jade green -> the architect is the best part.
Anime Eyes is the one, but that finale ultimately amounts to a tease. Wish there were more departures like that tucked into the record.
Sway, Anime Eyes, and the closer were standouts on my first listen. Overall nothing that feels super special like anything from Golden Hour, but it’s a huge step up from star-crossed.
The way she sings the word Cardinal reminds me of how they sing the word Pokémon in the Pokemon theme song to the anime
This is fine, but crazy low variety. I suppose there are worse things than a baseline of pleasant title track is one of the worst songs on the album, shouldve led with almost anything else
This might be her first number one debut- projected for around 75-85k. Ariana around 90k. Haven’t seen projections for the new Justin Timberlake though. sorry if this is boring info for some, lol. I’ve always loved following this stuff though
I thought this was enjoyable, gonna be good open windows springtime music. Legitimately surprised at all the love for “Anime Eyes”, that song stinks.
Listened to this a second time while driving around in Iceland while on vacation. Probs would fit with sunnier weather here, but a nice vibe. I enjoyed Giver/Taker, Heart of the Woods, and The Architect this time around. A very low-stakes, mellow album that blends together in a pleasant way. I think her lyrics have unfortunately worsened since the first three albums, which is odd bc this album is folky and that sound calls for a more lyrical focus IMO. But I still appreciate them in a diary-like, confessional way. Again, musically, leagues above star-crossed, but I can’t help wondering why she didn’t take any risks on this. Like I don’t think there’s even electric guitar on this thing. Just very… one-note.
