Don’t hate me but I think the song Deeper Well is worse than any song off of the last album. I cannot believe that was the first song we heard.

Albeit most people seem to disagree so I’m gonna assume it’s just me that finds that song tedious.

 

The chorus is good and most of the verses are probably the worst thing here (depending on how you feel about that part in "Anime Eyes")

Best songwriting for me is “The Architect” by a good margin

 

The Architect was my standout on one listen

 

Yeah that was the big standout on my second pass this morning

 

Weirdly I was going to bring up recently that since she stopped working with Shane McAnally, her music lost the cut through it had (generally speaking I mean, it was still pretty good). And it seems this song is the one song on the record that Shane McAnally co-wrote.

Edit: don't get me wrong, Kacey is a great writer, but together they certainly seem to create special things.

Further edit: he only co-wrote Rainbow & Space Cowboy on Golden Hour. So I guess I'm talking pre-GH/old Kacey records.

 

Cardinal and The Architect both made me feel things. Good job Kacey

 

The Architect, Heaven Is, and Anime Eyes

There's this certain economy to good country songwriting that no other genre really has. It's so immediately noticeable that that's the Shane McAnally/Josh Osborne track.

 

Cardinal is a slam dunk

 

Really surprised “Sway” wasn’t the second single as well.

 

only spun the title track in the weeks leading up to this album and didn't return to it as much as i thought i would. just hit play on the full thing and i'm really enjoying it so far. it's like she's resting in the velvety, soft sounds that made Golden Hour so damn good, but taking a slightly softer approach. i honestly liked star-crossed quite a bit, but i'm more than happy to return to these soundscapes.

 

The melodies and harmonies in Cardinal are reminding me of another song

Without a doubt, great vocals and production. I like this kind of Kacey in smaller doses, though. I really miss the sass of those first two-three albums that I think made her pretty singular. I really don’t see how this will make for an arena tour.

And 1000% that part in “Anime Eyes” (which I’m for) is gonna be a big TikTok prompt, if TikTok still exists.

Album is okay. Better first impression than the last one but a bit boring. She sounds good

 

This is where I’m at too. I appreciate it, it’s beautiful, she is an amazing vocalist, but I don’t know how much I’ll go back to it. Will give it a few listens to see if it clicks. Golden Hour is a near perfect album for me, this feels more for specific moods

 

I liked this a lot altho I think it trails off a bit toward the end

 

honestly curious to see how the sleeve smells. i got my sister the Golden Hour Boy Smells candle a couple years back and it smelled good, so to see them team up with Kacey for another candle and the record jacket for Deeper Well is an intriguing prospect.
