as much as i enjoyed starcrossed (but not as much as golden hour tbh) i am really hoping this new album knocks it out of the park for her. and has more of a return to her roots.

Her first three (not counting the X-mas albums, though they’re good fun) are incredible. Golden Hour in particular is pure magic. Star-Crossed would be a fine record by any other singer-songwriter-type-artist, but it’s her worst one yet and compared to what immediately came before, it was devastatingly disappointing. I just hope she instills more of her personality into the new lyrics. That was the biggest flaw of Star-Crossed for me. It lacked all of her classic charm. Felt like it was all flair, but lyrically lifeless.
