oh yeah them also and I saw the rumored amount it cost to break them out of their contract and no label take on that kind of debt it’s insane and sad
I’ve been getting ready for Coachella fest and I’ve been listening to all XG releases again and they have such fun music. I don’t really care for the concepts and music videos but the music is always insanely creative. It really helps they honed on that influence from the 2000’s r&b and rap. some ridiculously catch choruses
I just don’t understand how literally no one in the company thought hey this concept is bad maybe we shouldn’t do it especially for a live chat
i saw that on Bubble (direct messaging service for idols, if ya didn't know) apparently Belle had said not to leave the fandom/unstan after seeing the live. i think her and Hanuel posted messages indicating they kinda knew there'd be backlash
Yeah they 100% knew what they were doing and so did the company, it's beyond stupid and just blatantly terrible
Don't think I've seen a K-Pop group miss the mark this badly in real time. The company coming up with a shit "sorry you feel this way" apology on their behalf is the nail in the coffin
i saw ppl say this was like 2nd-gen K-pop levels of racist which, like, lol only person i'm willing to extend some grace to is Hanuel, since she's the only one who grew up entirely in Korea and doesn't speak english the other 3 members need to face this directly and speak up. i'm not accepting that bullshit company apology- i'm fucking BAFFLED that they thought this was "celebrating" my culture in any way; the other 3 members all speak english and should've known better
in lighter hearted news after a cryptic message from Yeri on bubble looks like she and Wendy left SM for solo stuff but red velvet still lives so in celebration plz go stream their best song Psycho :) Red Velvet’s Wendy, Yeri leave label
I know nothing about anything, but curious what you are all talking about. Anyone want to give a short version?
It's kinda hard to give a short version but one of the members of Kiss Of Life had a prerecorded birthday stream (funny concept but I get it but anyway) and the members of the group showed up dressed like stereotypes of black rap artists (multiple snapbacks, chains, bandanas, the list goes on really) and spoke in blaccents the whole time, calling members by fake rap names/personas while eating cornbread and collard greens, as some examples of the racism going on in general. One of the members also sent out messages after the recording/before the streaming saying "hey please don't unstan after this" implying she knew what they were doing was offensive, and their label give a half-ass apology for it calling it a "celebration of black culture" when it was so obviously mockery
I hope Red Velvet actually does continue, I feel like every time we hear stuff like that it doesn't end up being the case but SM does at least have a tendency to continue group releases with members off the label even if they are extremely scattered
Been on a biiiiiiiig Nmixx kick lately I think they're becoming JYP's best group as a whole (have probably said this before) "Know About Me" is one of their best singles yet and they're full of nothing but hits and their voices are so infectious I love a vocal powerhouse group that also does the weirdest shit possible a lot of the time
left newjeans and kiss of life behind now it’s only aespa, twice and illit for me (until I find all the new girl groups)
