I'm going from Japan to Malaysia on the 5th. Not sure if it will be difficult to go to Singapore. Might head there a day early.

Was so close to getting a ticket to watch Seventeen in Singapore but then I realized I'd never forgive myself for paying more than $300 for a single ticket.

Oh well, maybe I'll get a ticket next tour before scalpers resale them.

I'm obsessed with the new Seulgi mini album, it's all I wanted and more. Dead Man Runnin' and Crown are early favorites.

It was brutal, I’m sure I’ll find something on other markets closer to the show date that’s reasonable but good god, I’m shocked at how much harder that was than getting Blackpink tickets

Friends of mine had a tough time getting tix for their original tour dates too. They are def at a point where they need to be doing a fan presale or Verified Fan to at least mitigate the bloodbath. That said, a friend also managed a tix for the new Atlanta date, so it IS possible. I am personally regretting not being into them enough to go when they were here last, so hoping they come back to the northeast soon!

Glad they're getting enlistment out of the way, and it's only 2 (and a bit) years, which will fly by. Looking forward to all their solo stuff over the next year or so!

I'm relieved for them that they can finally get moving with this, and it seems on their own terms. Excited for all of the projects to come from them, and glad that they seem to be staggering enlisting a bit so that the amount of downtime won't be quite as felt. It will go quickly! Stay healthy, stay safe, Bangtan!

And now it's no surprise why they were SO very off the hook at the Busan concert this weekend.

    rant warning
while i think it will be a very long time before we see any group have the success of bts, i am very interested to see if any group can fill the void of popularity in korea. seems like for the past few years no boy group has been able to break through with the general public, been a long time since ive seen anything other than bts or seventeen do well on the charts. but it used to be a pretty competitive scene with the sm groups, big bang, 2pm, b2st, infinite and b1a4. but now everything has moved into more niche territory, which is cool in its own right but the last time a new group rose to massive popularity seems like a lifetime ago. this past year alone girl groups have had multiple massive debuts (le sserafim, ive, newjeans). looking at the real time charts the top 50 has 16 girl group songs, and only 1 boy group song, and its big bang, a group that debuted 16 (!) years ago. a hardcore international fanbase is fine when youre nct or stray kids or enhypen and you have the backing of a massive label, but ultimately for other upcoming boy groups its not sustainable.

anyways here are some recent tracks i like

le sserafim's new single dropped yesterday. i think i like it more than fearless, sticks to the more rhythmic sound but i think it feels bit more dynamic. maybe not as catchy, but that could obviously change.

new kep1er is pretty fun, has a cool pop rock vibe, loses me a bit in the chorus's flurry of sound but i dig most of it.

speaking of kep1er, limelight is a predebut project that i imagine will at some point include two of the kep1er members. theyre mainly promoting another song but i much prefer this one. perfect for anyone who likes loona and/or wjsn

and on a slightly different note, the superstar rhythm game series has released their loona version and it seems like chuu's new agency chose not to include her likeness in the game's collectible cards. not a good sign in terms of her moving forward with the group:teethsmile:

I'm curious how BTS having less of a presence will be felt. I'm someone who got into kpop via BTS, but has come to like a lot of other groups. I know quite a few people like me, but I also know a lot who are generally not interested in kpop and consider themselves BTS fans only. Some of this is because of the competitive nature of the genre, I'm sure, but I'm someone who can't help but love the thrill of exploration. BTS is def my favorite, and I don't see that ever changing, but I've come to love TXT, Monsta X, Seventeen, SHINee and now Stray Kids, so I'm excited to keep filling my ears with their music, too. I have a feeling BTS is going to remain a strong presence even in their absence, but definitely not to the extent they have had while active.

I'm mostly curious if BigHit/HYBE takes this as a chance to push their own groups a little more. It feels like it's been a long time since the last TXT comeback, even though it hasn't been that long, and while Seventeen puts out music much quicker, they'll be facing their own enlistments starting sooner than later, so they may go hard in the coming year as their possible last OT13.

Love the new girl group songs you posted! I'm liking Le Serrafim a lot in general.

totally agree about the thrill of exploration, definitely my favorite part of the genre as well. always new stuff but because the requirements for being a kpop group are so specific checking a lot of it out is still very manageable.

i am also very curious about txt's role in bts's absence. they always seemed to me like a group that was perfectly suited to be the next big thing. they have a sound that stands out and that can appeal to hardcore fans and the general public.

im sure youre familiar with them but since you didnt mention them, may i interest you in my personal favorite bg of all time, exo?

monster is imo one of the coolest performances in the genre. the album its from is also incredible front to back. their whole catalogue is littered with classic singles and top tier b sides

lot of side project releases too. my personal favorite is their subunit's second mini album. chen is maybe my favorite kpop singer, and baekhyun is not far behind.

i also wanna share this track from the criminally underrated gorup, dkb. theyre from the same label as brave girls and this song is indicative of one of my favorite aspects of kpop, the little known group that randomly releases one of my favorite songs of the year.

I hadn't really checked out EXO, but I'll give them a listen!

There's just SO MUCH, even the groups I like, I don't necessarily know their entire discographies (except for BTS and their solo projects) but I'm working on it!

They're going to be KATUSA's (in short, well educated/english-speaking Koreans with money as is my/others experience with them previously and currently) and not RoK Army Soldiers (much more difficult lifestyle/quality of life), so they'll all likely be stationed at Humphreys or Casey doing kush jobs. Also, they still get to go home on the weekends/holidays.

This makes sense but I hadn't heard this anywhere else, is there a source for it?

I mean... I'm at Casey now, and Humphrey's is the 8th Army/2nd Infantry Division's main post/HQ here for the US Army. Given their popularity, I wouldn't be surprised if they all stay at Hump or Yongsan Garrison in Itaewon and are put in a public affairs role. They can very likely be placed with any type of unit we have here though, mine being an MLRS unit where we have about 20 KATUSA's. We love them, they are some of the hardest workers and funniest people to work with and great friendships have been made both times I've been here. I've also seen that they may be using them as a recruiting tool to choose Korea for duty location over the next two years with a chance to serve with them.

Thanks for the insight! Aside from Shownu of Monsta X, who is currently a kindergarten teacher, and Taemin of SHINee, who's experience makes me lightly nervous, I know pretty little about how the enlistment for idols can go, so it's appreciated!
