I remember the lead up to the album and we all thought we were gonna get a Bon Iver sounding album lol

Decided to throw this on for the first time in forever. Agree the album would be better if Filthy was cut and it opened with Midnight Summer Jam. Montana is also one of my favorite JT songs.
I think if you cut the fat and make this an 11 track album it's pretty solid.

 

Did anything come of this?

 

I won't try to argue that it's his best album, but MOTW is definitely my personal favorite album of his / the album of his that I listen to the most - with the huge caveat that it should have only contained about ⅔ of the songs that it did.

Montana is a killer song though. No qualifiers needed for that.

I taught preschool during the height of Frozen and Trolls so all those songs have a special place in hell for me.

 

Interesting seeing all the 20/20 love in here, for me it's Futuresex/Love Sounds that is so fucking good that I think it's probably impossible for him to top

 

20/20 Pt 1 is the only album of his that I love but I really love it. The rest have some great tracks and a lot I don't care for.

 

Both of those albums are near-perfect for me.

 

FSLS is probably his best album, but I need to give the top to 20/20 pt1 solely for Blue Ocean Floor. I’m still obsessed with that closer

 

I couldn’t get into FSLS but I listened to it after 20/20 pt.1 and had only heard the singles prior to that. 20/20 pt 1 is a phenomenal album.

Still not sure how he messed pt.2 up so badly.

Listened to 20/20 pt 1 yesterday for the first time in ages. I still really love about half of it, but there’s definitely some stuff on there that just doesn’t work for me. Always thought “Don’t Hold the Wall” was a complete brick, and I still do! Not really enthused about anything tracks 2-5, tbh. Back half is pretty amazing though.

 

I feel like the songs that don’t work on 20/20 1&2 would be really fun to see live. It’s just hard to listen to those songs in album form.

I liked Stay With Me, but I feel like that song came and went pretty quickly, didn’t really impact the charts much. If even that song can’t be a hit for him I really think his mainstream relevance might be done for good. Hoping whatever he comes out with next is quality at least, but I’m not expecting hits at this point.

 

Is he really a man of the woods though?

 

The 20/20 Experience (Part 1) turns 10 today. Crazy!
