This is crazy to me, lol. I don't think a single song on here is even close to anything on 20/20 pt. 1.

    I do not exist.

I'm with you - I can only find three songs I'm enjoying here. Maybe four at a push.

I can't even make it through that album anymore. The songs are just interminable, and there are a fair few tracks in the first half that I just never warmed up to. I think the lack of eight-minute songs on here helps it for me a lot. Even the long songs I like on 20/20 ("Pusher Love Girl," "Mirrors") lose my interest halfway through.

I think the only songs that really feel their length for me are Don't Hold the Wall and Let the Groove Get In but I still think those are really good. Everything else I still love. On here I only really like Montana and there's some stuff I actively hate, lol.

I just ditched the songs I hate, haha

I think pretty much every song feels its length on 20/20. "Don't Hold the Wall" is the worst offender, but I have a lot of trouble with "Strawberry Bubblegum," "Tunnel Vision," and the second halves of "Pusher Love Girl" and "Mirrors."

    Anyone ever listened to this?

It's a shortened version that is actually pretty well done.

i'd say 20/20 is 100% better than MOTW, but i'm still into MOTW for the most part. there are absolutely some songs i can do without all together but overall it's a fine album that i've been revisiting throughout the week.

the BBC article was a good read. i find it interesting that something switched overnight with him. the whole world was all over him for so long.

prime example: super bowl performance. i thought aside from the sound issues he killed it. the performance was very similar to this VMA performance which everyone LOVED. this time around it's "underwhelming and boring". he sang, he danced, he used the whole stadium. the only thing he didn't do was fly on a jetpack or dive off a scoreboard into the stadium. and is that really what justifies a good performance?

Gotta say I'm so used to female popstars being torn down that it's kinda refreshing when it happens to a male. If I'm gonna silver line this situation.

I always enjoyed the back half of all the tracks on 20/20 pt. 1, especially Pusher Love Girl & Mirrors.
It’s like we got two records w/ that release of pt. 1, the pop songs & then the club tracks.

Hey, no piece of modern music reporting or criticism is complete without snark. Apparently.

It's hilarious that Pitchfork gave MOTW a lower score than Eminem's new album.
Been listening to this for over a week now, and I still really enjoy it. The title track has grown on me a lot too.

Btw I personally think the ubiquitous praise for Montana is the definition of the celebration of white mediocrity that is complicit in the whitewasashing of mainstream (as in top 40 radio mainstream) r&b-like music that has taken place over the last 10-12 years

It's up to you to decide if my criticism of a frequently heard general opinion about something invalidates your personal opinion on that same thing since I'm obviously not talking about your personal opinion.

i feel like r&b-ish music has only intermittently figured into the charts over the past three years anyway? mostly i feel like i sort of understand what you’re saying but can’t think of any examples that support your point

like what is popular zeitgeist-seizing whitewashed r&b other than jt, whose moment was more than ten years ago anyway, and whose past music i feel weird describing as whitewashed bc i feel like appropriation/absorption of black music by white musicians is usually more complicated than “whitewashing”)

i feel like there’s maybe 1.5 bieber records that engage with r&b and one of them was a flop (journals)
