i mean what was bad? these twitter reactions are hysterical.

he played the hits, he sang, he danced, he crushed.

I was very underwhelmed too. The breakneck speed at which he compiled songs was a little jarring. It felt like he played hypeman to the crowd too much. I'd have much preferrred it if he at least played 4 songs with longer segments, I understand he hast the hits and people wanna see them (and also he has to entertain - but he's fucking great at that without just clapping, hyping the crowd and not singing) but for 20 seconds at a time it does a disservice to some great songs he has.

Will say that I expected more new stuff.

Also "promising no Prince hologram" and instead using a projection on a sheet isn't much different.

To be honest, Super Bowl halftime shows are never all that spectacular. Not sure what people were expecting.

Yep agreed. I feel like this suffered from the same issue as every halftime show in the last few years has, the format of trying to do like ten or more 30-second portions of songs is wayyyyy too much. My mom said the last few years’ halftime shows felt tailored to a “generation with no attention span” and for once I totally agreed.

Yeah, I feel like the issues I had with it were the same ones I’ve had the last few years. Nothing uniquely bad as far as JT himself.

It was totally fine. Standard modern halftime show. I'd rather have 3-4 full/near-full songs than tiny snippets of 8-10, but it was entertaining and well put together.

Most of the great halftime shows are from many, many years ago

It was a pretty good performance, but yeah I agree that these past few ones have been jamming in way too many songs. I'd prefer 4 full songs over 10 snippets

The fact they haven’t performed either of those songs together live yet is a tragesty

I'm actually surprised to hear that it's never happened. Especially Telephone I feel like that was a pretty huge song you'd think they would've done it at some point.

Just play Prince's "Purple Rain" performance in the downpour on big screens again and I'd be happy.

I feel like Demi would do a good halftime show but she's not quite at that level yet

Felt like this show was exactly what I expect from halftime shows. nothing more, nothing less. not everyone is gonna pull off a Beyoncé level performance where it overshadows the whole game lol. halftime shows are just to keep the audience hype and that seems like exactly what justin was trying to do. I still hate can't stop the feeling so the ending was pretty meh for me but it was a great choice considering how big a single it was and the number of people he has to keep entertained. i do feel like i've seen him dance better though, but with singing at the same time and all, y'know, not everyone's Beyoncé

bey aside, bruno did it better, too, i'd put this about on par with lady gaga, and i'm still imagining what a killer halftime show rihanna would put on

I'm just here to say that as a longtime original jt hater the tides turning a bit is very disconcerting for me. I feel like it's all a very elaborate ruse set to lull me into a false sense of security because the world revolves around me obv.

The fact that shakira hasn't performed a halftime show is a crime but I guess she hasn't had a big American hit in a lil while. Still she would kill it.
