The second season is the crowning achievement. The Bennett family is the only villain that truly feels like they developed organically within the show.
Boyd had been there since the beginning, and Duffy was pretty close too. One of the big problems that shows with high death counts have is finding a way to organically replace characters. Dewey Crowe's extended family is a big negative example of that, with the only real narrative thread being a throwaway line from Givens in the first season. Quarles is an interesting example because he sticks out immediately but his character is designed to stick out in that way. Even though the Bennett's are not even mentioned in the first season and you are led to believe that Boyd's father ran everything, they still feel very real and as if they had always been there. A lot of other shows could learn from that sort of world building, especially after a first season where it was mostly a series of unconnected encounters with criminals until the very end with Boyd's father.
i know. i was saying they were villains that felt organically developed haha. the biggest argument against is calling both strictly speaking villains
also other tweets showed it’s set in detroit. i’d imagine raylan is in a new field office, so new boss/crew?
Searcy was actively tweeting fucked up stuff while the show was on. Not an essential character anyways imo But fuck yeah, I’ll take some more Justified
