I just want to know if it sets up the groundwork for Batman smashing Lois Lane, a plotline everyone wanted to see

Even if Zack Snyder's is 1% better than whedon's then I'll still be satisfied.

I’m interested to watch this and fully believe it will be better, but the big question for me is ‘will it be so much better to justify the entire Snyder Cut campaign and associated toxicity?’ I’m not as confident in that answer being yes.

The sidewalks are watching me think about you.

Ok, now that everyone is commenting on the movie I can say that I've seen it. It's better than it has any right to be but it's not actually... great. It's fine. The choice to present it in the boxy 4:3 format is actually so weird because that works on a big IMAX screen but not on what everyone will be watching it -- a widescreen TV at home. Just a bizzare choice.

Same. It feels SO WEIRD to me when I watch the clips and the previews and stuff. I know I am just conditioned after so many years of most movies being some form of widescreen - like 16x9 or 2.35:1. But also everyone's TV / computer / phone / tablet are all shaped completely differently than this thing is gonna be.

I truly do not understand why the aspect ratio is such a big deal.

His motivation for shooting like that was for a format that it's not being released in (for now; who knows if they do some kinda limited IMAX release at some point down the road), but it's still the aspect ratio he originally had in mind. It didn't bother me when watching First Cow, or The Lighthouse. And, if you think that's too apples-to-oranges a comparison, even Marvel Studios has played around a little with aspect ratio, albeit not to that extent; based on a quick search, the first Avengers & Ant-Man are 1.85:1 instead of 2.39:1.

Decided to do some math, ‘cause I’m a nerd.

Most regular televisions are 16:9, right? Well, if you watch a 4:3 movie on a television with that aspect ratio, the biggest it can be is 75% of your screen.

What about a 2.39:1 movie? Well... if my calculations are correct, the biggest that can be is ~74.384% of your screen. Which is, one, incredibly similar, & two, actually a hair less of your total screen!

That's why I said I am conditioned into thinking it's weird. 20+ years of that being the norm for movies, especially epic movies like Lord of the Rings and stuff, has completely conditioned me. There's nothing wrong with 4:3, but I'm lying if I say it doesn't look and feel weird as fuck to me. Watching the Justice League clips in 4:3 just feels to me like there's some even bigger version that's been cropped down to 4:3. It's strange. I'm hoping maybe when I watch the actual movie it's not a big deal. I literally only noticed it for one second when watching The Lighthouse and then never thought about it again. It was like a 'huh, I guess this is gonna be in 4:3. weird.' but then it never crossed my mind again.

The Lighthouse isn't in 4:3. It is 1.19:1, which is even closer to square. It uses the space well, because you are dealing with a vertical structure and the two characters are often shot as towering over one another. It is weird to see something like an action movie use anything less than 1.85:1 because they are trying to portray a grand scope.

I wasn't trying to imply that The Lighthouse had the exact same aspect ratio, just that it's another example of a movie having another ratio really not being a big deal.

Snyder's 4:3 choice certainly isn't a common one for this kinda film, & it's fair to ask what his reasoning is, but I can't wrap my mind around "dreading" it. I promise that's not gonna be the thing that makes or breaks this film, lol. And, for what it's worth, he did have a reason (in addition to the original plan to have an IMAX release):

"Superheroes tend to be, as figures, they tend to be less horizontal. Maybe Superman when he's flying. But when he's standing, he's more of a vertical."

Literally all human beings are "more of a vertical." That is an insane sentence.

It's not worded great, lol, because it's Snyder, but like, if you have even a casual understanding of superhero iconography, I think you can tell what he's trying to get at.

every review i've seen is like, "this is a four hour long movie."

I can barely make it through two hour movies. Someone upload clips of the cool shit.
