Justice League (Zack Snyder, November 17, 2017) Movie • Page 74

Discussion in 'Entertainment Forum' started by Henry, Jun 22, 2016.

  1. Trailer doesn't make me any more or less excited. Song choice felt weird to me. I liked the Snyder DC movies more than most, so I'm interested to see what his cut of this will look like. It's nice that we'll get more Vic/Cyborg and I'm curious about the Iris West introduction.

I don't even understand how this exists. Did they just delete 2 hours of footage and have Joss Whedon film new shit to replace it with? Or were there legit reshoots years later to get footage for this release?

Zack shot 4 hours of footage in 2016. After they got Whedon, he only used an hour, maybe an hour and a half, of Zack’s footage and re-shot the rest.

Also it needs to be made clear that if this is really going to be four hours long then it isn’t actually “The Snyder Cut”. As in, WB was never going to release a four-hour movie into theaters regardless of who had final cut privileges. This is something entirely different than what would have been released into theaters if Snyder hadn’t voluntarily left the project.

That’s makes it even more of a Synder cut tbh

It’s definitely his cut he finally gets to see through, further than he would’ve a few years ago; there just wasn’t one already sitting around in some vault waiting for release like the petitions/hashtags were losing their minds about — needed extensive effects/etc.

It’s “a” cut that he got to see through. It isn’t “the” cut that would have been released in theaters if he hadn’t left the project. WB would never have released a 4-hour+ cut of this movie into theaters.

They would’ve done an extended addition for home release. The “directors cut” or “ultimate edition” like they did with BvS.

Exactly, basically agreeing with this, just lots of gray area/weird circumstances.

Well, I think the thing to keep in mind is that Snyder originally intended for this to be a two-parter. That got delayed for the at-the-time intended solo Batman film starring Affleck. As a result Justice League became one film. So my assumption is that at that point Snyder was already making compromises with the studio to cut an awful lot of material out. My guess is that it would have wound up being a three hour film like the BvS Ultimate Cut unlike the two hour version it became under Whedon. So in that regard my take is that this is will be closer to his original vision for two separate two hour films clocking in at four hours. The cut we would have gotten in theaters would probably have been a truncated version of this.

Right ok good so we all agree that this is not going to be “The Snyder Cut” as it would have appeared in theaters in 2018.

Ok, but, like, that’s such a dumb point to be splitting hairs about here. Only the most misguiding & ill informed Snyder cultists think there was a verbatim complete film, fully edited in its final theatrical form, all effects work done. And, those clowns are off yelling on Twitter & YouTube & I dunno, maybe Vero? Not Chorus.

Even Snyder himself, when the Snyder Cut was announced, made it clear that it wasn’t all done. And, that even with the HBO deal, he hadn’t yet decided what it’d look like. Sure, he shared a picture of his reels of raw footage to fuel that #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement (which was clearly smart, since it helped make a real finished Snyder project a reality). But, most people aren’t saying what’s going on HBO Max next year is verbatim what should’ve been in theaters in late 2017.

This will, however, be much closer to his intended vision. Just taking advantage of the new platform & format’s freedoms. As was said, it’s comparable to the BvS “Ultimate Edition.”

I know Snyder’s a bad storyteller, but still. Wonder if this parsing would happen if this were happening with Lord & Miller’s Solo.

The point is that the “Snyder Cut” isn’t what Snyder is currently working on. He’s out there pretending that this is the version of the movie he always envisioned and that he’s finally getting a chance to release it the way it was supposed to be released. Which is absurd if it’s going to be over 4 hours long. The campaign was to get WB to allow Snyder to finish and assemble the theatrical version of the film that he would have released if he had been involved through to the end. This isn’t that.

Can’t imagine why this is such an outrageous thing to say.

    Assume It's A Bit

This version wouldn't have come out in theaters, but the idea that this isn't the version that would be the director's cut/"ultimate edition" is kind of absurd IMO. I find it much easier to believe that Snyder was envisioning a four hour long movie where he could overindulge himself than a two and a half hour one that jives with what WB would want to release. It IS the Snyder Cut moreso than a studio-cut version to fit theaters runtimes.

It’s going to be in a totally different format that will allow for it to be longer than it ever would have been had it been released in theaters. It’s “a” Snyder Cut, not “the” Snyder Cut.

To be fair they are allowing him to finish his cut and more. Its like they baked him and all his fans the cake they always wanted and yelled surprise while opening a room full of presents to go with it.

Yeah idk, I never expected the Snyder Cut to be what his theatrical cut would have been. I always figured it would be akin to the BvS Ultimate Edition, and I'm not sure many people thought otherwise?

The whole campaign was about getting to see his original vision for the theatrical cut. How it would have been released without the Whedon reshoots.

I think Snyder Cut is being taken too literal here. I was always under the impression people just wanted the film that Snyder envisioned. Which is what this is to the max.

Why aren’t more people talking about the Sonic movie? We need to see the original version, if Snyder can do it then it’s time to #releasetheteethcut

The bizarre semantic backflips going on here are so bonkers, lol.

If there’s 2 versions, & one was overseen by Whedon & uses a lot of stuff he shot, & the other is overseen by Snyder & only uses his footage, then one of those is “the Snyder Cut,” whether it’s what would’ve come out back then or not.

Which, like... the way filmmaking works, what does “the original version” even mean? Decisions are made throughout the process that change things considerably. See: the editing process of the original Star Wars (not even getting into the later special editions).

Plus, Richard Donner’s version of Superman II is called “The Richard Donner Cut,” even though it’s not 100% what his theatrical version would’ve been had it come to fruition in that original moment in time... and, that one even uses footage the replacement director shot. But, it’s still the version of the movie Donner, not his replacement, oversaw.

I cannot believe we’re in the stage of the pandemic where I’m technically defending Zack fucking Snyder, lol.
