This is getting too much heat honestly. I know there are issues, but some people are acting like any of the sins here are way worse, and not seen in other (cough marvel) films.

  2. A sect of DC fans can be smug and terrible, and I can see how people would perceive Snyder's films as having a sense of self-importance, so maybe they invite harsher criticisms? JL feels the least Snyder-y of his DCEU films though and doesn't take itself too seriously, I don't think.

But maybe critics just genuinely don't like these movies.

I'll start this off by saying, coming out of this film, I was actually very very pleased. Anything wrong with the first half was made up for with an awesome climax.

    Pros:
-Almost the entire third act was awesome
-The underwater scene looked awesome and has me very excited for Aquaman
    - SUPERMAN SMILES AND IS A FUN CHARACTER
-interactions between the heroes was great
-Batman didn't feel like the asshole he was in BvS
-Post-credit scenes were both a nice touch
-Parademons might be the most memorable minions in a comic book film.
-Cyborg wasn't nearly as distracting as I thought he'd he.

    Cons:
-I think two of the fifty jokes Barry made actually worked
-ALL of the humor felt forced
-Some bad dialog, but I don't feel like it hampered the movie like some people have said
    -Editing
-I couldn't stop staring at the CGI face
-Steppanwolf should have been an actually person, not CGI. They make mention of his height a lot, but you never really see his scale.

Truthfully, I'd be shocked if you ended up loving this film, but I do think you'll be generally happy with how it handled Superman in the final stretch and how it set him up for future films.

This movie made me want to rewatch Justice League and Justice League Unlimited which is always a good thing

    Couple questions....

Why did JK Simmons get so buff for this movie? He was in a suit/tie the entire time. We were given no indication that he rolls up his sleeves and does anything physical.

Why does dirt lift from Clark’s casket at the end of BvS, given what we learned in JL?

Simmons was already jacked, iirc. I think it was more that someone finally noticed. lol

I think JK Simmons said he worked out for his own health, I'll try to find the article when I'm off mobile.

Regarding the dirt, I imagine it was either a fourth wall thing, to ensure audiences knew he'd be coming back or maybe we can get a little more gratuitous with it. Bruce said his cells can't decay, so maybe it was an unconscious stimulation? Like his body was still firing off certain processes as he was dying. His body wasn't decomposed at all, I would buy the argument that it was lingering activity in his cells, if all they needed was juice from the mother box.. That's a big leap though, one of the faults of the DCEU is leaving viewers to try to fill in the gaps sometimes.

I enjoyed this. Could tell parts seemed patched together but it was fun

Also, I hated the silver parts of Batmans tactical suit cowl, reminded me too much of Clooneys.

Just got home from this. Ugh so many thoughts. Honestly I think Nolan's Batman trilogy was so perfect that anything to come after just seems shitty to me. Batman was my least favorite part of this movie.
I really liked The Flash, though. I'm really looking forward to his stand alone film.

    DKR isn't very good.

    And after seeing this -- I wouldn't mind a Flash/Cyborg movie.

I don’t know what to say. I went in with the most open of minds, even though I haven’t really enjoyed any of the DC movies very much...but this sucked. Like, really fucking sucked. It’s a dirty mess. The fight scenes are incomprehensible. Flash is funny and it doesn’t fit in the movie. The way Wonder Woman is treated vs. the way Jenkins treated her really made me uncomfortable.

I just...I don’t know. There’s one scene in the middle I actually quite liked (pet semetaru), but mostly I just wanted it to be over.

its still so weird to me that Cyborg is in this. Dont get me wrong because I LOVE that character and hes the basis for one of my favorite comics of all time (JLA/Titans The Technis Imperative) but he seems like an odd choice to add in when there doesnt seem to be any plans for a Teen Titans movie. It'd be like if they had Tempest instead of Aquaman or something, its like we skipped a movie and hes just kind of there. I do like Cyborg in this though even if his timeline is sorta wonky based on what we saw in BvS and what we see here.

    Shame about Aquaman though.

Who would've thought two years ago that the sequel to Thor: The Dark World would outperform the first ever Justice League film in the same month.

Should be interesting to see how Aquaman turns out. Wonder Woman already had a tonal shift in its DNA due to Patty Jenkins' love of the original Superman film, but this was initially meant to be essentially BvS vol 2. Snyder's fingerprints are still all over this thing. Aquaman will be the first film completely crafted post-DCEU directional shift.

I mean, Cyborg was made a founding member of the League in the New 52 reboot in 2011 and is still a member today. His modern origin is pretty tied to both the Justice League's formation and a Mother Box. He's a pretty natural inclusion.

If I were making a Justice League film from scratch, I'd have the main characters be Cyborg and either Hal Jordan or another Lantern borrowing Hal's origin (I'm biased towards Jessica Cruz). The villain would be Darkseid. No solo films in advance. The Trinity would already be established publicly, and both Aquaman and Flash would also be known in their areas. The basic narrative structure would be a mix between New 52 Origin and Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier, with Victor and Hal/Jessica/John/whoever's origins built into the alien invasion. Those characters would sorta serve the Kitty Pryde/Jubilee/movie Rogue role as our entry point into this world.

yeah i fell off of the New 52 and I need to get back into it. it definitely makes sense but ill always see him as a Titan haha.

i like this idea a lot more than the movie we got tbh. Jessica Cruz or John Stewart would be my Green Lantern picks for sure. again, the DCAU probably influenced this opinion a lot, but ive always enjoyed John as the GL and Jessica would be a good inclusion just because from what ive read shes an interesting and different kind of GL.

I hope that Flashes movie isnt going to reset the whole universe like some seem to think. i guess Flashpoint will be their contingency plan if this movie really bombs hard but i hope they keep this going
also i hope they plan to introduce more heroes. probably wont be soon since they kinda have to get their current roster straightened out first but id love to see what this universes take on Martian Manhunter would be

Jessica Cruz would be a fantastic choice because it'd further expand the team's representation and also undo the team's current Smurfette situation with WW. Plus, if they had Jessica in full Lantern attire and made Aquaman shirtless, you could undo the awkwardness of clothed men and unclothed women while keeping WW dressed the way she should be. But, yeah, even beyond all that, I just love Jessica Cruz, lol.

I think that, with the world Suicide Squad and Justice League have established, it'd be a stupid waste to attempt a reboot, lol. We have a pretty well fleshed out DC with a generally strong cast. Just keep working from that. It's not like Fox had to erase Origins: Wolverine in order to make Logan. I'm really excited at the prospect of a Flashpoint film as a strong mix of character-driven story and big spectacle, and also as a sort of test drive for a big Elseworlds film. But, using it to shift continuity (that can always just be ignored with casual retcons) would just make things more complicated.

Though, as cool as all this expanded universe talk is, all I want is one good modern Superman film and a Batgirl film not defined by Joss Whedon. lol.

I understand the frustration and agree with the central sentiment, but it's worth noting that the backlash was driven by women and fueled by Snyder's awful track record with women.

Obviously women aren't a monolith. I appreciate her perspective and don't care to weigh in on how I, as a dude, personally weigh it against the initial backlash. But, I hope people don't choose a side based on whether or not they liked the film and then conveniently paint the other side as the truly sexist side. The criticism wasn't born out of men declaring all unclothed women inherently sexualized, but rather out of women unhappy with more obnoxious male gaze.
