I do look up a lot of skateboarding videos on the internet whenever I get in the mood. So I don't follow it, competitively, I dont' care who won what competition, I just think it's so creative and badass and I think it's the most entertaining skill-oriented sport to watch for sure.

I like other extreme games too but come on, on a skateboard they're literally not strapped to the board and they're flipping it and shit, even if it's "not actually harder" than snowboarding as I've had people tell me, it LOOKS crazier

Literally the most appropriate post on this entire website.

 

Street skating especially. it makes me mad that most cities are hostile to skateboarders. What is cooler than taking an existing environment designed for common pedestrian use and coming up with ways to string moves together on public rails & benches, etc.

I know everybody's seen skateboarding a million times but I personally never get over how awesome that concept is. I've always wished I didn't suck at skateboarding but I'm too much of a C O W A R D to practice and now I'm just getting too old

The risks are much higher starting later in life of course and there's a lot of other challenges (I think - if only I started skating when I was a kid/teen with all that free time) but getting too old is just a convenient excuse to not do it. I'm 30 and doing it, I've seen people much older getting out there on the new skaters subreddit and shit. It's entirely possible.

 

I want to so bad. I'm always braver just talking about skating though haha. When it's time to get on my board and try shit, my gut reaction is to be too timid about it... the last time I went to a skatepark I finally was able to handle ramps but I'm still unsuccessful at breaking that fear of falling. It's so hard to get over that natural impulse to over-correct your balance.

 

Of course I decided to start skating the year I moved to a town completely hostile to skaters and the town police roll up so fucking fast whenever I spend 5 minutes on my board.
