I came to the same conclusion with my uncle. He has been a chronic alcoholic literally all my life, but as I was a child/teenager he had at least had enough control where if he was at family gatherings he could stay sober for those and he was fun to be around. But at this point he is a shell of himself, he lied about being sober a few years back to get a liver transplant, after he did that I just cut ties with him. Someone who is in dire need/on the road to recovery could use it, and not just abuse the new one. It’s a sad situation but some things you just gotta wash your hands off and walk away.

Damn, honestly the best chance an alcoholic like that has to get help is if everyone deserts him and he hits a true bottom to genuinely seek help, its the worst thing about recovery.
