I think its appeal is just that most nearly anyone can personally relate to working in an office

Completely agreed. It's the weakest Schur show. It's funny but that's kind of it. I have no emotional connection to anything other than Jim and Pam.

To add on to that hot take: the last two seasons of the show are literally just as good as the rest.

I think season 8 is as awful as its reputation but I'm one of the few who thought it really bounced back in season 9 and ended strong. It also has one of the better series finales I've ever seen.

But yeah season 9 is not that much worse than the best seasons of the show.
