Haha I looked it up and you’re right. To be fair I wrote my whole album pretty much between 18-22 and released it at 26. Give the man a break!

True, and that happens to me as well, but what I do during that 4 years is I re-develop half the songs to be up to par with my increased music standards and I scrap the other ones that don't age well haha. I think it's important for musicians to recognize they don't need to release everything they write. Sometimes a few songs aren't gonna be as good and that's okay - keep it for yourself as a learning experience, don't mess with the flow of your album haha. Nothing wrong with finishing said song as a b-side or demo or whatever.

I'd rather a band have 2 albums that are excellent start to finish than 4 or 5 and I can't get behind the whole tracklist of any of them.

Taco Bell is sadly crossed off the list for me since I have no car. Last time I wanted it, the delivery service wanted me to pay $17 for one chalupa and one cheesy gordita crunch. Yeah but if you release 20 songs and 10 garner a particular fan base and the other 10 garner a particular fanbase then...who cares? Music is in a position where anyone can record pretty good quality stuff.

 

I do not miss the amount of public interaction I used to have at my old job. Today I had to cover the front desk during lunch and someone called to complain because our electronic signs throughout the city were “rude” because were warning people like weeks in advance that fireworks are illegal in the city and it’s a $500 fine and I was just like “okay well they’re not changing but I’ll let someone know”

But what if the artist is better at one than the other? Imo artists should favor their strong suit instead of trying to reach for the sound of bands that inspire them. I also don't usually think that's how it works haha. I think more often someone writes 35 songs and then maybe 10 are quality songs in one style and like 6-7 of them are quality songs in another style. The rest either don't stand out as much, or they sound too much like one of the other songs that gets that mood / point across better.

Of course, this is all subjective, not a rule of thumb or anything, just my perspective on it

While The Room's Too Cold is a pop-punk / emo classic, I would recommend a new listener who isn't biased to that style of music to listen to The Mechanic

Yeah that's what i'm saying too. Example: I do not like Golden Record by The Dangerous Summer. For some, it's their favourite. Should they of recorded it? Apparently yes, haha.
