there are people on this website (the large majority - including myself) who genuinely wrestle with their feelings around problematic artists and try to do the 'right thing' in those situations. there are also people on this website (the seemingly vocal minority - a lot of whom can be found in the blink thread) who don't care about accountability or whatever and just want to continue listening to what they like without the freaking sjw's nagging them. and i feel like both of those two completely different sets of people are being conflated in that thread right now and im just like... i genuinely don't understand how it's "toxic" to be mean to rape apologists or whatever (shrug emoji) idk

But it is also offputting to see most of the hostility coming from the people least affected.

I think it's just I don't know if you talking to the dumbies does anything and then they get defensive and a bunch of people are like hey man I'm just here to talk about Rampart and that goes on for 3 hours and nothing happens haha, and then they get mad at us for being a clique or whatever, but by all means do you

Undoubtedly, there are users that take advantage of the more egalitarian approach to policing threads of shitty artists because it will give them some peace of mind to discuss that artist openly. Then when someone drops truths about said artist, they will likely point back to the conversation happening in the accountability thread and use it as a shield to say “we’ve moved beyond this pile up tactic”. Idk. It’s a messy thing.

 

I do think it is refreshing to be honest about slip ups and the moral quandary that we face when we want to engage with art made by problematic people.

I think by this point, we know how to distinguish between the users that could care less about allegations and the users that care about victims, but are having a hard time giving the music up.

If it's any consolation it popped up because of the Matty/1975 thing. But the blink thread stuff is still mostly stupid as shit tbh. Like, making fun of people for being immature for being an adult and listening to blink 182 is literally no different at all than being an adult and trolling a blink182 forum thread.

it's always baffling to me when I see people on the same side of an issue going after the throat of a like-minded user on this site, it's happened to me by users before in very condescending ways and it made me really not want to be on this site /end rant
