yeah, this movie may have been a slight disappointment but it is nowhere near as bad as the fucking shitpiles that Trevorrow churns out
This was better than the last three films, although that is not saying much. The superboss dinosaur at the end was such an embarrassment. When they discovered the lab full of the failed dinosaurs they missed a great opportunity for an Alien: Resurrection reference. It was helpful that the kid held the M&M's right at the camera as the water dinosaur was trying to kill them. Things like the dinosaurs appearing behind smoke are not revolutionary techniques but it shows how much more competent Edwards is to the other guys. Ali surviving is so obviously forced; his entire character development has been about how the loss of his child ruined his life, his crew (metaphorical children) are gone, and he has a chance to save the little girl. It is screenwriting basics. I appreciated the deaths of the two crew members because of the goofy way they were portrayed. The dinosaur casually coming from the side of the frame to kill the female crewmember was different, and pulling up the French one to find him already partly consumed was satisfying. Other than that, you could see who had plot armor and who didn't a mile away (maybe in some versions the dad sacrifices himself) so you can never really fully invest in the stakes.
No it's funny because I didn't even notice that, and even when I first read your post I had to think about it, but yeah
I still liked this more than most people seemed to, but I am pretty disappointed that Gareth Edwards has a weird thing against raptors
I absolutely did not hate this. It was certainly better than the last couple. A fun mindless popcorn movie.
I wanted more raptors, but the unfinished deleted scene of them was dropped for a good reason - they literally showed up to do nothing at all and were only used to again show how badass / scary the Mutadons were I wasn't the biggest fan of D-Rex, but I think if I could have made only one change it would be to swap out raptors for Mutadons
Finally got my m&g photo with Orlando bloom and Bryce Dallas Howard two months later from SiriusXM PS glad I don’t have to pay 120 or 169 for a pro photo op at comic con
Been showing my kids the Jurassic Park series recently (they’ve been begging me after watching both Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory) and we just finished Jurassic Park III last night. That was an amusing experience. About halfway through my nine year old son (he’ll be ten in October) turns to me and says “So…this is all this one’s about?” and I was like “yeah” and then near the end he wanted a snack so I paused it and he looks at the screen (I use a projector for these movies) and says “We’ve already got only fifteen minutes left?” and I was like “yeah.” After it was over, he gave me this weird look and said “I mean I liked it, but…” and then trailed off and raised his hand and shook it to signal he thought it was “mid” which was hilarious because seeing it for the first time again through the eyes of my nine year old who is so clearly in his head and giving me looks like “okay something happened here” takes me back to when I first saw it in theaters in high school. When the “ALAN” moment was about to happen I said “okay, bud, you’re about to see a, uh, iconic moment here” and then he saw it and just offers an incredulous “bruh” and I laughed to myself so hard. I’m curious to see how he responds to the Jurassic World half of the series. I do think he’ll enjoy the first Jurassic World just for all of the connections to the cartoon series he’ll recognize, but knowing how far afield we’re about to go has me very interested in his reaction.
