Other than maybe younger kids, is there anyone who actually prefers one of the sequels to the original film? It might be the only franchise where there is close to 100 percent agreement.
It’s pretty hard to make anything these days that would compare to what it would’ve felt like seeing that original Jurassic Park in 1993. people hadn’t seen dinosaurs like that in movies before. for example, the T. Rex smashing the SUV with the kids inside or the velociraptors chasing them through the kitchen. that still gives me anxiety and I’ve been watching it for 30 years
The story in the original JP is also simple, original, and was a great lesson on why people shouldn’t play God and the threat of treating new scientific discovers like “a kid finding his dad’s gun”. Near perfect film that I don’t think any sequel can ever match, but that’s fine with me.
All of the Jurassic World films are wild-class bores. It’s shameful they reunited the original cast for whatever that third one was, but hopefully they all got a bag.
I actually have watched Jaws 2 far more times than the original, but I wouldn't say it's the better movie - we went thru a phase as kids where we rented Jaws 2 from the video store all the time same thing with Temple of Doom actually - that's the Indiana Jones movie that I've seen the most by far, though I wouldn't say it is either the best or my favorite
I disagree - I think the original three are all awesome and the newest one is pretty good. I do not care for Crystal Skull at all. Temple of Doom is easily the weakest of the original three though. back in the day I thought it was all of the CGI that I didn't like, but after watching it more recently I think it's the digital color grading on Crystal Skull that I just can't stand
Dial of Destiny was trash, imo; haven't returned to it since I saw it in the theater, haha. Might return to it one day, but not for now.
I didn’t watch them all til my mid 20s so I have no attachment to the original trilogy. Temple of Doom is very bad. The only one I might put below it is dial of destiny but I’ve only seen that once and don’t have a strong opinion on it.
I think this is kinda funny, because I feel like you and I agree on a lot of this stuff and have similar tastes usually I did see it at the movie theater with my son though, and it was probably the first movie I went to with him that I genuinely had an interest in seeing myself. plus, my dad took me to see Last Crusade when I was my son's age pretty much exactly, so I'm sure all of that played into my enjoyment of the movie
I guess the incredible overreliance on CGI really threw me off, and a lot of it looked quite bad in places; plus, some of the story bits just made no sense, or were so nonsensical as to be comical. At least I think these were my complaints, but this is only from my memory of seeing it back when it came out, haha. But yeah I can see how as a film experience to see with your son, as just having a good time at the movies, it would be a great choice to see, for sure.
for whatever reason I was able to just go with it on Dial of Destiny in a way that I really haven't been able to with the Jurassic World movies. I spent each of the JW movies just thinking to myself 'why the hell is this the story that they chose to tell?!?' with Dominion being the worst offender of the bunch. there was some cool stuff in there, and one really well-directed sequence, and then so much WTF. plus, when I saw that incredible dino-only opening that they removed and all of the found-footage-y dino stuff that they either took out or just made as promo fluff stuff it was even more aggravating because all of that stuff was much better than the actual movie.
Crystal Skull is more entertaining than Dial of Destiny, IMO. But yes Last Crusade is easily the best.
