RT is not a critic. it is just an aggregator of other critics (that want to be included I think, not just any/all reviews)
I am honestly just hoping for well directed sequences and a script that mostly stays out of its own way
People use RT as truth? I get that some people like reading specific critic's reviews, if they typically align with their own taste. I think it's foolish for anyone to think this movie specifically is going to be a cinematic masterpiece by any means. We all know deep down that it's going to be mostly bad/dumb, but will have parts that some people find fun, while snobs will just compare it to Schindler's List or something and call it hot garbage because they typically don't know how to just have fun.
I don't get this view. Why is the bar set so low for these movies? The first Jurassic Park has plenty of fun dinosaur-related action and is also a well-made movie with a good story. The Jurassic World series has plenty of dinosaur action but the stories are cynical slop. Why should a viewer accept that when we know it's possible to do both?
because of the trend of the last 5 or 6 or however many movies there are now. i think it's realistic (at least for me) to keep expectations lower with these movies, and leave plenty of room to be pleasantly surprised haha.
I think it is definitely possible to do both but the entire Hollywood ecosystem makes the chances of it happening very slim I personally think we have a better chance at getting amazing masterpieces from TV right now a quick example that jumps to mind is Andor vs The Rise of Skywalker
Like, surely its possible for Disney to whip up a new Star Wars film as good as Andor, so surely its possible to make a Jurassic Park/World film as good as the universally acclaimed original JP film
moreso that there are even more forces actively working against something making it thru the pipeline creatively intact with mega budget Hollywood movies vs huge budget TV
also, I do think the last star wars movie would have had a much better chance at not being a horrible pile of shit if they had figured out what story they wanted to tell and wrote a script before production started
It's possible, as long as the Disney suits just let a good team make a good movie without dollar signs shadowing better judgement. It's actually just like the story of the original JP movie. They made a dinosaur theme park because they knew they could make a shit ton of money from it, but didn't consider if it was good or not. Disney is the "blood sucking lawyer" just wanting to think of toys, merch, and everything except the movie itself.
No one does this. There is literally a film right there that is easy and relevant to compare it to. It is the original Jurassic Park.
I know, I was being facetious. And even comparing the movies to the original JP, none of them come close. Not even Lost World.
Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Barbie, Dune 1 and 2, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. All recent films. Making a good blockbuster is not impossible.
