Hot take: I didn’t think the opening was anything special either.

The opening was ok. That dude not understanding that his comrades were trying to warn him was ridiculous.

Anyone see Bayona's first film The Orphanage? Just watched it last night, good stuff.

Speaking of the first scene I was confused. They went down to get the bone from the I-Rex. Then when they sent it up to the surface, the mosasaurus looked like it got in its way and blocked it.

Then cut back to the guys on the surface in the helicopter needing to go get said bone. Then the whole sequence with the T-Rex and mosasaurus but they never actually got the bone. But then they somehow magically have it.

Also why do they even need that bone? They already made the Indoraptor before that. Wasn’t the plan to use the bone for that purpose or was it to make another Irex? Or sell it.

Yeah they still had the dna of all the other dinosaurs. Why wouldn’t they still have the IRex dna

Because the writing is like a 7 year old going "Then this happens. Then add this awesome thing! Then add some rawrs here. Oh yeah throw this in!"

Jesus I hated some parts of this.

    Spoilers ahead -

    1) Why the clone kid? Such a random thing tossed in, did not affect the plot one iota. Felt like a plot from another future sequel shoehorned in, and they did nothing with it. DUMB.

    2) Am I the only one who thought that them letting the dinos lose at the end was the dumbest fucking thing in the history of movies? How does that make sense? You are leading, what, THOUSANDS of people to sure death, at minimum, right? To 'save' the bloodthirsty dinosaurs, many of whom have been actively trying to kill you for 2 movies? That's absolute insanity, even for a PETA type, and WILDLY irresponsible / probably criminal?? You have seen up close what they can and will do.......and even if one were to argue, "the kid did it", it doesn't matter, as Claire was about to do the same goddamn thing and let them go. In a movie with very little internal logic already, this KILLED me.

    3) Plot-wise, even if just to set up a sequel where the dinos roam the Earth, that last move STILL wasn't needed, since you already had the dinos from the sale driving away in trucks. Could easily have had them get loose for part 3 and have the same effect.

I'll admit this is nitpicky of me, but wouldn't Claire be in some deep legal shit for the events of Jurassic World? Wasn't she in charge of the I-Rex exhibit that went horribly wrong and led to hundreds of deaths?

Considering Claire is basically an entirely different character now, maybe the real Claire IS in prison and this Claire is actually her clone.

I get the angle and intent that all life is valuable and they are just innocent creatures. I get the device of the clone girl to bridge that concept that it’s not about the species it’s about life, but it’s just so sloppily handled and just assumes that it’s a contentious issue, when through Malcolm, you present the POV that most of your audience agrees with and has agreed with since the original. These animals shouldn’t be here! Let them go extinct!

It totally disregards the consequence of what would happen because if it did at least acknowledge it, it would even seem more asinine that the girl actually did it. Like little girl, yeah you saved something that was alive but these animals will get killed by man anyway in two seconds because they can’t exist with us and in this absurd movie universe where that won’t happen, countless amount of people (who are also “alive” like you) will die.

And 100 bucks says when people are dying in the next one they’ll just ignore all of this.

I’m wondering if the whole point of (1) answers and explains why (2) happened. She said something along the lines of “they’re alive like me” so maybe that is the way they explain it. I mean it’s lazy and terrible, but that’s what I think they’re doing here.

probably not, they mentioned very early in the film that Masrani Corp. was paying out hundreds of millions of dollars in class action lawsuits, presumably Masrani Corp. is the one who is held accountable for all this.

It's a shame Pete Postlethwaite has since passed, if there is any shot at the next movie revolving around hunting the currently released predators, I would have loved to see him reprise his role to catch the T-Rex again.

Isla Sorna is still in canon here, right? I know Trevorrow was “ignoring” the sequels but not necessarily retconning them so if that’s the case and Isla Sorna is still a thing...why would the dinosaurs need to be moved to a brand new island at all and why would this volcano be considered a state of emergency when they already have Site B? The dinosaurs were transported from Site B to Site A so just...put them back. Right?

So are the sequels really NOT in canon then?

    Sigh.

I’ve seen this brought up, but the big scary villains were always intending on bringing them to the mansion to sell them, right?

Then again Claire’s objective was to save the animals and she worked at the park so she should’ve known and during that convo about the sanctuary she should’ve been like. Wtf? A sanctuary? There’s the other island. problem solved.

Then again Claire is a clone and isn’t the same person from the first one so.

yeah as Dodger said the objective by Mills was never to bring them to the "sanctuary" in the first place, but to the mansion, who knows if the Sancutary even actually exists honestly, it was just a ploy to get Claire on board in the first place.

I think the sequels are still canon, but after the events of TLW and JP3, Isla Sorna might have been more publicized and thereby not a place that would necessarily be safe for the dinos to live out freely.

Is Jimmy Buffet running around with margaritas in this? If not 0/10 that was my favorite part of JW.

If I remember I think we see a damaged Margaritaville sign in the abandoned park.

Did he not die in JW?

If he survived, I think he is still in hiding with Jimmy Fallon and both will be back for the 3rd one.
