Leave it to Twitter to cherry pick sections of an interview. That chosen selection doesn’t reflect the attitude of what all was actually said
Eh, the quote out of context feels like he’s giving her advice he thinks she needs. In context, he’s just like “She doesn’t really need to hear this.”
Did you not read this this? “What advice could I give her? She’s like, what, the highest-grossing movie star of all time, I think? Her or Sam Jackson. Something like that. She’s a pro. I couldn’t give her any advice.” It’s clear he just said whatever came to mind without being serious about it. It’s not “going to bat” for Chris. It’s pointing out poorly executed rage bait. I don’t care who the actor is. Rage bait is just dumb when it’s so easy to point out.
Imagine taking his words literally as "your script is so good it doesn't need me, I'm off to go find a shittier production so I can save the day."
Similar technique that Sydney Sweeney is taking with her “building connections at Sony” comments re: Madame Web
I tried to be optimistic with that quote. Like maybe he is really just hunting lead roles and that wasn't what they offered him so he said "no thanks".... but deep down I know that's not the reason lol.
