Dominion making a billion dollars in spite of the fact that everyone hated it and during a challenged market in 2022 proved to universal execs they really don’t need to try that hard with these movies (yet)
I didn’t hate Dominion. It wasn’t great. The locust stuff was big bad. But I like that Grant and Ellie got together. Ummm… and I liked the clone kid. Okay, I don’t have an actual defense for it. I also like BDH. I don’t know.
Maybe the premise and script for this movie is so great that they are avoiding hiring a director that might fuck it up..... lol okay there's basically like a .5% chance of that being the case.
I watched a video by a Jurassic Park YouTuber that was trying to spin this all as good news and that it shows how much faith Universal has in Koepp’s script, lol.
Occasionally interesting when they go through initial plans/drafts for some of the sequels, but overall do not recommend.
I think I just saw this video come up on my autoplay lol. For anyone interested... His belief stems from a rumor that a bunch of people with Universal (Spielberg included) hated the direction of the last trilogy and are trying to "fix" the franchise by getting a good movie out ASAP (and apparently it's already pretty far along). Basically saying they aren't allowing anyone to hijack the script the way Trevorrow did. You know, I genuinely hope he's right, but I do not remotely believe any of that lol.
Don’t forget that the studio just wanted someone they could control. But hopefully they actually let him work
I know it may not mean much in 2024, but the fact that the article states he impressed Spielberg with his pitch is exciting.
Feel like a Gareth-directed Jurassic Park looks a lot visually darker with no dinosaurs until an hour into the film lol
Haha but hey, if the YouTubers are to be believed, Colin went off the rails from the initial script which is what they're supposedly trying to avoid this time.
tbf, the ideas for World weren’t bad, just executed poorly. Trevorrow might be a great “idea man” and that’s it. I believe Edwards is someone who is more likely to make his ideas work.
