I really enjoyed them. I think it’s at least one watch.

I thought Goldblum and Dern were fine because they’re always reliable to inject either charm or weirdness to it. As much as I love Neill he seems off in this. You also don’t get any sense of chemistry between any of the cast members of old, new or mixed. Like, they’re all blatantly there for the dumptruck of money that was backed up to their house and not because of Colin Trevorrow’s grand vision.

That said, other people in the audience loved it and clapped. The projector should have been allowed to take a bow. It was a weird crowd where someone just kept shouting “YES!” or “NO!” every time something good or bad happened. Then people started yelling at that person but they didn’t stop. Very bizarre.

  6. Lol. Just caught up on the last few pages of this thread. I spent the last couple weeks rewatching the series, and to my surprise, I enjoyed Jurassic World more than I remembered. Still an incredibly dumb rehash that weirdly blames the audience for wanting something big and dumb, but it feels like a theme park ride, at least. That being said...I think Fallen kingdom is the more interesting film, even if it fails to pull it all together. More practical effects, a darker story, and just one of the most bizarre plot twists ever lol. That doesn't make it good, but I do think it attempts to cut back on what we've seen before and tell a story that is more thoughtful and at least somewhat fresh (not unlike The Lost World).

    My ranking would be:
    Jurassic Park
    The Lost World
    Fallen Kingdom
    Jurassic World
    Jurassic Park 3

Anyways, I think my mom remembers how much I loved the original trilogy as a kid because she called and asked if I would see this with her and my dad on Sunday, which was very sweet and unexpected. I feel like I know what to expect having revisited the previous two and for whatever reason, this thing getting panned has me even more excited lol. If my parents have a good time, I probably will too.

I'm seeing it in Dolby right after work with my daughter, who has now kind of grown up with this franchise the way I did with the originals. While I wish these were better, I have enjoyed both of them so far

Stupid question....there's the original island (JP1, JW1, and JW2) and then the second island (JP2 and JP3), both if which had dinosaurs on them. In FK they said that the dinos on the original island needed to be saved from the volcano because they were the last dinosaurs left on Earth.

However, what happened to the second island from JP2/3? Where did those dinos go? I don't remember them mentioning this island at all in either of the JW films.

2 and 3 never happened in JW canon

That's not true. There was a long viral marketing campaign prior to Jurassic World that delved into what happened with Sorna, mainly bringing those animals over to the new park.

Pretty sure Sorna is also directly referenced in Dominion.

It's never addressed in the movies (or in Camp Cretaceous really). There are some non-movie pieces of media (such as this website: Dinosaur Protection Group | Jurassic World) that give a half-assed explanation of "The dinosaurs mysteriously vanished from Isla Sorna from disease, super predators, or something else". They basically also said that they did their best to bring whatever dinos they could over to Isla Nublar for Jurrasic World (and in Camp Cretaceous you see that some dinosaurs like a couple of T-Rexes and the Spinosaurus were poached from the island and brought to a THIRD island).

So basically, the island's dinosaurs either died out via various means or they were brought to the new park....or other companies captured them. I still don't completely know why they didn't even consider moving the dinosaurs over to Sorna whenever Nublar was about to explode though.

  17. I’m just about to start watching this. Why is it 2.5 hours long though??? Anyway, wish me luck. I’m sure it’ll be silly and fun. I hope, at least.

maybe I’m just tired and have accepted we will never get a great sequel so my expectations were rock bottom… but I thought this was fine. The locust plot is a truly baffling choice. Did the writer forget they had dinosaurs in the movie? A bizarre plot for a Jurassic Park film. What were they thinking with that? I can understand if this made people turn on the movie. But I rolled with it and liked what they did around it with the OG cast. Super happy with how Ellie and Allan’s story wrapped up here. I always enjoy Bryce Dallas Howard. A lot of the emotional beats aren’t really earned, but fuck, it worked for me.

I don’t know. Maybe I enjoyed it more because it was far more enjoyable than the child a few rows back who talked for the entire first 2 hours of the movie before the dad finally left with them. I was so annoyed at that dad for bribing a kid that doesn’t know how to shut up, I needed to enjoy this movie. To make the annoyance worth sitting through.

Am I going crazy? I generally side with critics. And while I’m not totally opposite of them, I feel like I lean far more positive than they did.

I’m sorry, that person is an idiot. TROS is so so much worse than this. Although, there is a scene where Maisie is told about her true origin and the phrase “done to protect you” was said and I couldn’t help but think of the absolute worst line in Star Wars, “they sold you to protect you.” It was not awful here.

Oh, and Tevorrow’s comment about Giga being like the Joker is truly odd having seen the movie now. It’s basically in like 3 sequences? And he just acts like you would expect a carnivore dino would act.

The Wolverine dinosaur was so weird looking. But when it used its claws at the end, hell yea.

I’m really glad to hear this. I felt like the comparison was most likely an overreaction given that TROS is such a god awful movie that you’d reeeeeaaaaaally have to try to match it. I was concerned that the reason they made the comparison in the first place was because TROS was meant to be a saga capper for the entire shabang and it failed miserably, and that’s also what this is sort of intended to be as well. So it’s nice to hear that’s not necessarily the case (i.e. that it failed miserably).

I think it also helps that Fallen Kingdom wasn’t incredible, so it’s not some massive drop in quality like what happened with TROS. And I’d argue the characters here have a far more satisfying ending than TROS.

I actually loved this. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed it, lots of great action and suspenseful scenes. I understand the critiques with the plot, like the locusts were an interesting choice and kinda seemed out of left field, but I think they were able to make it work well whether you thought it made sense for the movie or not. I do think that the beginning highlighting how dinosaurs and humans have to learn to live as one, and basically then not actually showing any real world interactions the rest of the entire movie was kinda odd.

A general issue I had (and this is always an issue with any action movie) is the unrealistic ways characters escape death. You can't tell me if makes any sense that two raptors can keep up for miles chasing Chris Pratt on a motorcycle but then later on a character can escape the same dinosaurs on foot lol

My initial thought is to rank this 3rd behind Jurassic Park and Jurassic World
