I'm aware of that :)) and yeah I was specifically refering to what was posted later on - her talking about how weird and awesome it was to do that show, and on the other hand, subjectively - I'd piss my pants to have such a mix of tunes, seems perfect to me. Thanks a lot! Haven't heard it, so it made my day right now :)) My guess would be it's a Star Killers song though.
I love listening to her live performances, aside from the usual suspects, any hidden gems to look out for? I've been searching youtube for new shows every second day!
Here's one I took where she played an extended version of Good News. It's only about half the song, but I just wanted to grab the last part of it because I love the back half of that song and she ended up extending it and I'm really glad I caught it because she never seems to have done that in any other videos I've seen.
No worries. Yeah, i think you're right. Though it's a 2015 song, so Forrister. From what i understand, The Star Killers changed their name to Forrister. But definitely sounds in the style of Choked Up, but with acoustic guitar.
Yeah I just assumed from that kind of sound that it might've been a song from those times, maybe an unreleased track that floated away in 2015, but who knows :)) It's good to hear she's planning to record quite soon,
The videos on the internet aren't the best quality, but there are some decent ones of The Star Killers/Forrister playing full sets circa 2012-2013 ish and then in 2015 and they're really great:
I just discovered her today and have listened to 'Sprained Ankle' on repeat for the last five hours or so. This is breathtaking piece of art and it will be a crime if she isn't huge in a few years.
I've been a mess all afternoon. I'm a pastor with gay families in my church, and 'everybody does' and 'rejoice' have reduced me to a bumbling shell of a person. I haven't felt this way about a record in I don't even know how long. It's wonderful and beautiful and heartbreaking all at once.
While we're on the topic of getting sad with Julien's music, this is a really good interview from a while back where she goes into pretty explicit detail about most of the songs. Most of them are way more literal than I had known before reading this and I honestly can't listen to Something since reading this without getting super emotional because of how she described that circumstance. I SEE A DARKNESS: Q&A w/ Folkie Julien Baker
Stumped upon a song she played at a house show once on YouTube and it knocked me out. She has such a powerful voice that can hit you right where it hurts.
I literally just found that video last night too. That song is beyond heartbreaking and her performance is mind blowing.
Wow that was devastating again, "Rejoice" is beautiful! Just gave me chills all over, although I've heard it so many times before.
I saw her play every song on the album, and Rejoice might be the most powerful of her songs in a live setting. It blows my mind every time I see a live recording of it too.
