This is my first year being able to celebrate RSD since I have a record player now and I have 3 on my list!

Julien Baker, Menzingers, and Justin Pierre!

 

So that RSD 7 inch looks to say Red Door, would the other song be Funeral Pyre? I don't think she ever officially released it did she?

 

It's another unreleased song, "Conversation Piece." She released a Funeral Pyre/Distant Solar Systems 7" in 2017.

Ahh weird, not sure how I missed that. I just remembered her debuting it as "Sad Song 11" and then it wasn't on Turn Out The Lights

 

digging thru to find more unreleased Julien stuff cause of this convo and apparently this is from 2017, and its very good. sounds more like forrister/star killers than her stuff now, but its not on any of their albums afaik

 

First RSD I’ll be in line for in awhile. Need this.

 

Saw that as well! Hopefully that Red Door version is not that same demo from the Japanese version of TOTL, but even if so, there's another new track, I'm happy ;D

 

This is the first year since I started collecting that I won't have to work on RSD, but I'm kind of confused about how it works. Like how can you tell which record stores will get the Red Door 7"? Is it every record store that participates or do usually bigger stores/cities get more copies or something?

 

You can check participating stores on the RSD website. If you check out multiple stores in your area, you’ll probably be able to figure out which one carries more titles/copies or have a preference on how RSD is set up there for future. If you are looking for something you don’t find in your store, check places like Turntable Lab, Bull Moose, Amoeba because they’ll put their leftovers online a week or so after, usually.

Makes sense. I just moved across the country to a rural area so I'm totally unfamiliar with all my local record stores and they are super spread out. Seems like it's probably going to be a shot in the dark as far as trying to find one that has the Julien Baker 7" if they don't post what they're getting in ahead of time or something. But I'll definitely be checking those websites, thank you for the tip!

 

If it’s really far out for you to drive, it may not be worth it. Try those sites, also Bull City and Shuga Records put their leftovers online. Good luck!

No it hadn’t. Since it’s now more than one date (this fest and Summerfest), I wonder if more dates are incoming and a possible tour.

 

Is the RSD single going to be available for streaming? I need to hear the b-side...

Heard the new version of Red Door this morning and was blown away.

EDIT: Just heard Conversation Piece. Don’t understand why this wasn’t on the album. It’s beautiful.

Real disappointed she’s giving props to Cameron Boucher on social media

 

They’ve been friends for years, and Julien has never been someone who would promote/support terrible people. I would guess this means she knows way, WAY more about the situation than we do.

 

Right. We know stuff that was posted a couple years ago. Last we heard, he said he was getting help. Julien knows whether he did, and what the result was, and where he’s at now, and what the victim thinks and all that. If she was comfortable working with him on a couple songs, I think she’s one of a handful of people that gets an automatic benefit of the doubt here. From me, anyway.

 

I hate the term, but Julien is one of the most aware, polically active, and “woke” musicians out there right now. Cameron helped her with these songs. Re: the Insta post, it is only right for her to thank him for his contributions.

 

Also, if people want to be upset that she chooses to be friends with someone who, from my understanding, is working to right his wrongs, then they can, but maybe instead invest that anger and get mad at the predators still active in the scene instead of at a young woman who’s doing a lot of good in the world for a lot of people.
