Tash is so good. I wrote about Mystik for my song of the year list. Can't wait till that album drops.
I love song exploder. When I was doing a cross country trip I ended up listening to every single episode. Gonna check this out tonight.
This is one thing that sticks out about her. Her every word seems so deliberately well chosen, she hardly ever stumbles over her words or says "uhh" or anything. I could listen to her read WebMD symptoms and feel at ease lol
Does anyone happen to have a link for the interview where Julien details the backstory behind Blacktop? With the streetlamp falling on her car and coming inches from her head and all that? I'm going nuts looking for it, haha.
Podcast was great, just wish it was longer. Such great insight and she's so well spoken that I could listen to hours and hours of this.
If you haven't yet, I recommend her conversation with Steven Hyden for the Celebration Rock podcast: The Sound Of Julien Baker’s Voice Will Make You Cry
Could be wrong but I thought this was just a well-known thing and was then just mentioned in articles going forward. I haven’t seen an interview where she specifically discusses it.
Yeah, it’s strange. I’m not able to find a singular source for it, which is a pain. Thanks, though! Edit: Now recalling the Sound and the Story episode on Sprained Ankle where the host quotes Baker verbatim about the backstory. The search continues. Edit 2: Reached out to David and he pulled it for me! He's the best. I SEE A DARKNESS: Q&A w/ Folkie Julien Baker
Took me till the Tiny Desk session to realize it but Even is the same chord progression as Smashing Pumpkins "Shame" off Adore. I dig it even more for that reason.
Not to take this totally off topic but Shame is one of my favorite Pumpkins songs....this live version gives me chills every time:
I recall someone asking abour tour merch. It’s now online on what looks to be Julien’s updated website! ALL PRODUCTS
