Julien is so small! I don’t know why that surprised me haha. She looks super nervous. I’m so excited ahhh
You also never put up the Silverstein review so can I assign you an embarrassing avatar in the interim?
Just saw Julien play a gorgeous acoustic set at Banquet. Wow. Chills. Such a lovely person, really funny and friendly. Got to have a brief word with her afterwords and get a picture. The pictures are horrifying of me, I look revolting hahaha. But she signed my CD, so thankfully I have something to show from it! Halfway through the set Now, Now walked in, and I about lost my shit. Two of my favourite artists in one building. I got to speak to Cacie too and get a picture with her. Very glad I made the extra effort to travel to this. What a day.
A lovely two days watching Julien. I was very surprised she said at today's in-store that she thought the Union Chapel gig went badly. I thought it was beautiful. Sorority Noise cover was an especially nice surprise today.
One of my friends sent me an audio recording of part of Art School Wannabe at Banquet, and it definitely made me regret not going to both London shows! Also appreciate how she didn't play some of her more depressing songs like Go Home, Claws In Your Back etc at Union Chapel (despite them probably being my favourite), as slightly more uplifting stuff definitely suited the atmosphere better.
I really hope so. I doubt it’ll happen but I’d love for more of the hardcore-type bands to bring her out. She seemed to love playing with Touché Amore and I’d love to see that happen some more as I’m admittedly not a huge indie / singer-songwriter fan aside from a few artists.
How receptive is the general hardcore-type crowd to this happening? I have no idea what it's like in the US.
I personally am not sure as I wasn’t at any of the Touché dates with JB (can’t remember if there were multiple dates or a one-off) but I recall an interview where she mentioned one of the shows, thinking the lineup was strange and was, therefore, super nervous to perform but some hardcore dudes ended up coming up to her after the set saying they really enjoyed it, so, I think it’d be cool to see that again.
I should add Katie Malco who supported Julien at the Union Chapel played a great set. I need to check out her stuff as I didn't know her beforehand. Think it would be appealing for a lot of Julien Baker fans.
I'm a very hardcore-type person and I adore Julien Baker and her Touché Amoré feature to bits and pieces. I think I'd straight up cry if I saw it in person.
Amid all of these allegations with other musicians, just want to say it’s really nice to have a strong female who takes no shit as one of my favorite artists. It’s something I’ve come to really appreciate over the last few days. Hope everyone is doing OK.
Honestly, I’ve slowly found myself leaning more towards female-fronted bands for the past year. With this news, and the many allegations against other musicians, I’m all but done with that scene entirely, and the vast majority of my favourite bands now are led by strong, driven, talented women. It’s also somewhat calming to know I will most likely never have to deal with such gut-wrenching news again while I enjoy these artists.
