My first impression of this is I like it but doesn’t hit me like Stranger In The Alps does. Kinda wish there were some......drums? Idk. Maybe not. That’s not what this record is. I’m going to give it another go soon. (I listened to both driving through the autumn forest today before and after a short hike)
The weird thing is, we are judging the two albums off of one another after what listening to this album one or two times? Give it time to grow and digest... I do too, I just threw it on my top 10 blindly.. but when you are getting chills you are getting chills, am I right??
I think this album has much higher highs than Phoebe’s does but I think Phoebe’s is more good all around.
"And I'd never do it but it's not a joke" "I know you were trying to help, but you're only making it worse" "But you can't even imagine how badly it hurts just to think sometimes how I think almost all the time" These are, unfortunately, the three most poignant lines with regard to my own life the last year that I've come across in 2017. Fucked up, but it's empowering to hear someone else lay these out so clearly and so powerfully. Shadowboxing has ultimately come out as my new favorite after giving it more repeated listens.
i forgot my headphones at home today so i've been waiting all day to listen! only an hour and half to go
Fwiw i really dig a lot of sprained ankle (everybody does is a standout) but it seems she went in a different direction here For me it's mostly that their voices sound so similar, like I can't listen to one sing without immediately thinking of the other vocally which makes it hard to not mentally compare
I instantly knew I would love this record the moment the piano started in Over. More piano = happy me. I wouldn't compare Phoebe and Julien as I think their albums have two separate feelings, but they rank as my 1st and 2nd favorite albums of the year, sorry Brand New.
Me: New JB huh? Let's see how long it takes before I start crying (30 seconds later) Me: *sobbing* Seriously?! This song doesn't even have words!!!
Ironic that Teebs is the one who’s like “let this grow it just came out” but he’s right Also don’t want this to turn into a competition between two songwriters who happen to be women But for real this album is beautiful
I think I lack sensitivity when it comes to music. I can listen to a song/album on repeat for a full day or more and be influenced by it, but I have never cried, gotten goosebumps, had my hair raise up, etc. while listening to music. I like i'm missing out.
Lol I also called myself out bc I do the same damn thing and there is a meme about it too haha! Anyway yes, shouldn’t be a competition both albums are great.
