Her set tonight was stunning. I’ve always been a more casual fan until the new tracks but she really blew me away tonight. Eager to spin the album in the morning.
I'm so close to finishing my thesis on Sprained Ankle. Still have only listened to "Appointments" once, and nothing else. Reading the reactions so far has been torture, I'm praying I can finish by Friday.
Fans who got it early are keeping it close to the chest... props go more to them than anything. Will be interesting to see first week sales for sure.
Julien Baker: "Leonard Cohen and Simon & Garfunkel are super emo" | Dork "‘Turn Out The Lights’ is not just an album for her, it’s a gift to her fans; the lyrics an arm around the shoulder, a hand to hold and a reminder that – imperfections and all – you are perfect the way you are. It’s telling you that no matter how bad things might feel, your life is precious, and it will get better."
Yeah, I definitely agree with Matt here. It seems to me that less and less albums are leaking a long time before release dates these days. But the fact that this is in the hands of fans and hasn't leaked is great to see.
They’re prob tied haha. There’s a part in hurt less that rivals the bridge of apotheosis for the best moment of the year imo
I can't wait until @BTDandFeelingThis does a Julien Baker bracket game. Can you EVEN IMAGINE kicking any of her songs off the island?! It'd be chaos!
This album is beyond stunning. She captures such a poignant balance between beauty and misery on this album. Reading through the lyrics had a huge effect on me, she writes about depression in a way that's eerily similar to my own experiences living with it. Early favorites are Happy to Be Here and Sour Breath, especially the ending.
No BUT that doesn't mean you wouldn't like it/be emotionally affected by it. It's beautiful songwriting with sad as shit lyrics and a fantastic voice singing them.
