Just seen on that Lucy Dacus has made a guest appearance on the final night of the JB London residency!!!
I listen to teenage girly music. Can't wait until I'm 40 and people make it weird, tho as a woman it probably won't be used against me in the same way. I feel like a lot of the music I listen to didn't start out as teenage girly music but has attracted a teenage girly fan base which is awesome for the artists. Less awesome for my wallet because it's made the concerts more expensive and also louder. But I'd take young girls ugly singing along over people talking loudly over Julien's set like what used to happen tbh!
I completely forgot that the crowd were well behaved for the acts and no talking during Julien's set, sing alongs and cheers after each song ends but no talking during her set which was nice! Yeah old the woman who told me all that stuff that I mentioned in the post on the page previously said in a very arrogant tone like i shouldn't be welcomed at a Julien Baker concert but I didn't stoop to her level and had a normal calm conversation about my story etc and she was silent after that and other people around me were like saying fair play to me and I said thanks but I told them JB fans from all walks of life should be able to have a good time at her shows, meet new people in the queue and hang out without anyone else judging or anything like that.
Some of the crowds at the U.S. shows were not great at times, talking loudly over the openers, loudly criticizing one of the openers Fightmaster (to where Julien had to say “no, we don’t do that here”), not respecting basic concert etiquette, treating the concert like a meme, constantly filming Lucy when she is in the crowd (she has been at a lot of the shows), etc. There was a lot of discourse about it on X and Reddit, so it’s nice to hear that the London crowds have been respectful.
For anyone not following or in the thread yet…we are on the cusp (on Tuesday) of the announcement of the Julien x Torres collab country album, and the two are performing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon that evening. Come join the thread if you haven’t already! Julien Baker & Torres - TBA (2024?) • Page 3 • forum.chorus.fm
It's actually her drummer and former Forrester/The Star Killers bandmate Matthew Gilliam, although I can definitely see how one would mistake him for Andy Hull. The person in the middle is Calvin Lauber, who is also in her band and produced Turn Out The Lights and recorded Little Oblivions.
I kinda wish hope she works with a producer. She has access to whatever person she wants. I feel like her keeping it all in house again could lead to some stagnation
Except her last album was entirely different from the first two? She also self produced all her country songs for the collab album. I’m not sure anyone else can perfectly evoke the JB feeling to be honest.
Yes, I can see working with an outside producer helping prevent stagnation, but in JB's case, I don't think there has really been stagnation. Each album has a unique identity and sound.
Hard disagree. Been pretty bored since Sprained Ankle . Turn Off The Lights had some good tunes but never return to their other stuff
I’m always surprised by people who think she peaked with her first album. To me, those first two are pretty close in quality, and the move to full band with Little Oblivions was so natural it’s become what I listen to the most.
