A friend and I were talking about how much of the discography has been covered and I think this is a full list of everything that hasn't been played yet (not including collabs/covers): Highlight Reel (Little Oblivions) Faith Healer (Little Oblivions) Repeat (Little Oblivions) Sour Breath (Turn Out the Lights) Televangelist (Turn Out the Lights) Everything to Help You Sleep (Turn Out the Lights) Hurt Less (Turn Out the Lights) Blacktop (Sprained Ankle) Brittle Boned (Sprained Ankle) Good News (Sprained Ankle) Vessels (Sprained Ankle) Go Home (Sprained Ankle) Vanishing Point (non-album) Mental Math (non-album) A Dreamer's Holiday (non-album) Sucker Punch (non-album) Distant Solar Systems (non-album)
here’s my list of shows for anyone who’s interested. adding #15 tonight for the last date of the chicago shows ladies literary library (calvin college), grand rapids, mi, 2016 covenant fine arts center (calvin college), grand rapids, mi, 2017 thalia hall, chicago, il, 2017 el club, detroit, mi, 2018 covenant fine arts center (calvin college), grand rapids, mi, 2018 deluxe @ old national center, indianapolis, in, 2018 the majestic theater, detroit, mi, 2018 (first boygenius tour) house of vans, chicago, il, 2019 majestic theater, madison, wi, 2021 the majestic theater, detroit, mi, 2021 ryman auditorium, nashville, tn, 2022 the salt shed, chicago, il, 2022 state theatre, kalamazoo, mi, 2022 thalia hall, chicago, il, 2024 those early shows, 2016-2017 in particular, were some of the most special of my life. just her, a guitar, and a piano. i was in such a vulnerable and weird place in my life, and her music was maybe the single most grounding thing i had going for a while there. i’ll never forget hearing early versions of songs like happy to be here and claws in your back live before totl was even announced and being so blown away. i don’t think i’ve ever anticipated an album more than i anticipated totl, and i doubt i ever will again. i’ve never seen a bad julien show, but those early days were magic. i can’t believe it’s been 8 years of being a fan and almost 10 years since sprained ankle came out. shortly after totl came out, i went through my first true heartbreak and an intense bout of depression. now, im married and expecting my son in just a few months. crazy how music can be such a constant even when your life changes so dramatically. can’t wait for round 2 tonight

This is 11 for me i think? I distinctly remember seeing an ad for her Lincoln Hall show (with Phoebe no less) back in 2016... the day after it happened. I have regrets. Aug 2017 @ Chicago Theater opening for Belle & Sebastian Oct 2017 @ Thalia July 2018 @ Eaux Claires (multiple sets in different capacities but I'm just gonna count it as one) July 2018 @ Pitchfork Nov 2018 @ Thalia (solo and boygenius) June 2019 @ House of Vans Sept 2021 @ Metro June 2023 @ Re:SET (boygenius) Sept 2024 @ Thalia Night 1 Sept 2024 @ Thalia Night 2 Sept 2024 @ Thalia tonight EDIT: wanna take this moment to remember how wild/magical of a festival Eaux Claires was. Bring it back, JUSTIN.
Ha, I’ve seen her once in Manchester. Can’t really travel easily to London on a week night so the shows in the UK this year weren’t an option. I caught boygenius in Halifax last year though and that was just a dream.
nice! that was such a fun tour. we made a whole trip to nashville and louisville around it, which was great. and then the kalamazoo show was less than 10 minutes away from my apartment, which almost never happens but was such a nice treat.
Same, went down for the weekend. We love Nashville so we never need an excuse but this was a good one.
If you see me tonight, please say hi. Haven’t seen many fans I know the past few days. Wearing an olive green jacket with orange hair and glasses.
Still thinking about those Chicago shows, hope everyone's having fun at the subsequent gigs (esp people who saw the DC show with Bartees)
NYC openers, in order (Katie Malco still on all dates) Torres (10/5) The Ophelias (10/6) Laura Stevenson (10/7)
Anyone know if Julien’s gone on stage at 10 for all of the shows so far? Setlist.fm has 9:30 for one of the Toronto dates which I would very much like lol
jasmine.4.t will probably be one, she recently signed to Saddest Factory Records, will be releasing her next album produced by boygenius next year, and Julien is featured on the song “Skin on Skin” that she released this year
My last train to my home city is at 11.30pm and if the setlist times will be the same as the Toronto show then i would definitely miss my last train back so I am hoping it would be just one opening act and Julien would come onstage at 9pm and finish at 10.30pm and I can get back to the train station without any worries. Plus in London due to strict curfews, gigs finish at 10.30pm anyways.
i often drive to the metro station for shows, taking the subway into downtown, and in rare instances i've had to uber back to my car bc it ended so late
