Brief interview from Phoebe and Lucy on the song: Julien Baker reunites with her boygenius bandmates in the confessional “Favor” | Beats Per Minute
Probably my least favorite of the songs released so far (on first listen). I’m guessing it will grow on me/work well in the context of the album though.
It’s been mentioned in a few interviews now, including this one that just dropped, that she relapsed in 2019 via substance abuse and I just want to say I’m really happy that she seems to be in a good place now and things seem to be going well for her! I know addiction is hard to overcome. Julien Baker Triumphs Over Her Inner Demons
Like this one more than Hardline, Faith Healer still the best of whats been released. Dont imagine we get a 4th single but ill probably hold on listening to anything else until release in a few weeks.
"Sat on the hood out all night, Trying to scrape together change. You pulled a moth out from the grill of your truck Saying it's a shame. How come it's so much easier With anything less than human, Letting yourself be tender? Well, you couldn't make me do it." Come on.
I love her interviews so much. Finally got around to the KEXP one and the part where she’s like “I don’t need to overintellexualize everything. I have a new dog. I like my dog.” cracked me up because I was in awe of how smoothly she considered and reconsidered her thoughts in real time. Hilarious deconstruction.
I imagine this isn't a surprise but the lyrics on this thing are a total knockout. there's a specificity here that really hurts, an honesty that I can hardly believe. I was on a long spiral down but before I make it to the ground, I'll wrap Orion's belt around my neck and kick the chair out. I did a double take when I heard these
It doesn't speak to me with painful specificity like Turn Out the Lights did but holy fuck is full band a good fit for Julien, and she's still writing some of the best lyrics out there.
