Sled Island: How singer-songwriter Julien Baker approached the 'daunting but exciting task' of curating the festival
What kind of direction would you like Julien to take this third full length? I personally drastically prefer the second album to the debut so a progression of that sound would be right up my street I think. I have to say that Appointments is one of my favourite ever songs.
I would like to hear more violin. Lyric wise I would like to hear more faith-inspired songs because I personally find her lyrics centered around that topic to be stronger. She sounds genuine with it and has written some lines that are very relatable.
More full band arrangements and explorations of different sonic textures re: synths, strings, percussion, bass, etc. But I'll almost certainly adore whatever she gives us.
I am seeing Julien live tomorrow so I will report back if she plays any new songs (and of course how the show went!)

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. Even if it were early 2020 it's sooner than I expected and anticipated so I'm all in for this. Looks like we are getting a Fall or Winter album from her ... and I'm sure that will be a perfect mix.
This is how I feel. I would love to see some experimentation and sonic progression on the new album. Turn Out the Lights felt like a refined version of what she did on Sprained Ankle, so now she can really move forward. But of course, I'll love more stuff in the vein of the previous albums too.
The show at House of Vans tonight was good, except a lot of people in the back were talking during her whole set. You could easily hear them talking during the songs. It sucked. Also, Julien seemed a little off. Maybe something is up, maybe it’s nothing, but a few people I’ve talked to have echoed similar thoughts, and it’s apparently gotten a bit worse up until now. This is of course speculation and not meant to be any fact based belief.
I’ve never seen a crowd so awful for Julien and I doubt I ever will. Guessing 80% of the people there were there for the free beer and nothing else.
